  • Fairtrade since 1976?
Well done, I didn't realize it was formalized that early for coffee.

  • I'm a slight tentative due to location I'm in London and a tendancy for life to get in the way of plans. So if there is someone else who is a definite I don't want to block a place. It's a very kind offer for you to do this and hopefully I can make it though. Obviously happy to chip in for ingredients/whatever else...

  • Anyone had a bonza coffee recently? @StevePeel got anything good?

  • Also Bali, am I likely to get nice coffee there? Going for three weeks so ideally won't take 500-750g of coffee with me!

  • Got my Yellow Bourbon coffee today, the espresso is very nice.

But this brings me to my issue, my lady and I have realised we like totally different flavours of espresso. If I were to grind some of the flavour she likes, how long would it be good for?

  • Just grind what you need per shot. Ground coffee goes stale quickly.

  • But that means two grinders...

  • Just measure out one shot of beans and grind that and then repeat with other beans. Just means you don't have a full hopper all the time.

  • Yeah okay. Just might be some cross contamination in the grinder then.

  • How about re-education?

  • Get a hand grinder for the one used less often?

  • Some grinders have quite a bit of coffee left in them after they've ground.

Grinders like these keep about 10g in which is incredibly annoying when changing the grind:

  • LOL Good luck with that!

  • Both used daily.

I don't think my eureka keeps grind, so that's not an issue if I fill it with a shots worth, will just do this method.

  • Get cheap scales and put them in a transparent ziploc bag.

There's nothing waterproof that's decent higher up the price range until you hit brewista/acaia prices, and even those are not worth the money IMO.

  • Had hit up Dr Hermans on Tues and got some cheaper scales but bag around is good suggestion, ta!

  • @Tenderloin The Sumatra Wahana is really singing as espresso right now.

@skinny Glad you're enjoying the espresso. Sounds like 2 grinders is the only way - if you have opposite preferences for espresso then chances are those two coffees will need significantly different grind settings so you not only have to use coffee to purge the grinder, you're also likely to use a shot to get into the ballpark before getting the settings correct.

@edmundro How you getting on with that Silvia?

  • Ah didn't even consider the grind setting. Guess we'll be drinking the bean she likes then, know my place.

And I look forward to trying the sumatra, really enjoyed that bean from another roaster.

  • Cheers Steve

  • Just made a brew of the Nicaragua. Interesting; a bit sharper than the Columbian. Quite bold.

  • Steve was obviously busy down the post office yesterday!

Fantastic service as usual, thank you.

  • Every bag of yellow bourbon I have received has been fantastic.

  • Yep, got my 1kg re up today too. Thanks @StevePeel

  • Technivorm people - how many grams per brew? And presumably it need filter papers - a particular kind? Can you get a metal or otherwise reusable filter? Just trying to work out the cost/effort ratio.

Currently I'm brewing 1 to 2 litres a day in a french press (at roughly 50-60 grams per litre, depending on type of coffee).

Some of that is wasted after it steeps/goes cold if I get distracted (hence the Technivorm appealing as it can keep it to temp for longer).

Is it a hassle to clean etc.
