£190 for a six month old Walker Brothers disc!
I asked Brian why it was described as "for urban use" (as opposed to their race wheels):
"It would be fine to race on but it has more flex than a racing wheel, so wouldn't sell it as a racing wheel. We have been developing a disc wheel for the urban market that is more affordable using cheaper materials. The wheel is primarily made from high strength fibreglass rather than carbon fibre. This gives a more comfortable and durable ride."So I think I'll hold out for the fixed version of the new Aerocoach Aeox.
PS Credit to Pifko for the find.

If they want a strong durable disc, they should use a strong carbon fibre in a tough resin system instead of a stiff carbon fibre in a relatively brittle resin. Glass fibre is inferior to carbon in all of its properties.
But ok, it will be a lot cheaper.

Walker Brothers or Aerocoach?

Is there a great need for a disc wheel for urban use?

Isn't that what this thread is all about? :)
I doubt many of the discs that make it to this thread, are raced on.

Walker Bros. The Aerocoach one is a spoked wheel with aero skins.

What are peoples' thoughts on these?

Don’t look as good as normal discs

I quite like the way they look but do agree. And it’s not like you’d be saving money by buying them instead of a cheap disk wheel

Building up the collection again, just need to find a track axle and screw on adaptor.
Anyone got any other discs going cheap for sale? -

It's a disc night special at Critical Mass this month.
Friday 29th, Waterloo Bridge from 6:30 or something. More details in the rides and races forum.

A bit too much and too far away. I'm not sure the 125mm spacing is suitable anyway.
Thanks though. -

Three of these are now in my possession. That superfluous HED is old screw-on freewheel, could mediate the sale if there's interest. Condition is a bit rough but at least the hub is complete for a rear. Potential rat rear with a fixed cog/freewheel adapter.
