  • It's Denmark: The shittest cars that are still drivable, cost at least £1200. We did have a tax break a while ago, meaning any car worth more than £12000ish is now only taxed 150%...

  • That looks like very light surface rust. Try Metal Ready or similar, or a soft wire brush, then Halfords for one rattle can of zinc primer and one of the right colour for the car.

    Hammerite will look bodgy when you come to sell it.

  • I see so many of these. Near me is a supposedly reputable used dealer, a little on the naughty £££ side, like a 14 year old jazz with a handful of stamps in tye book and nothing else going for it will have a £3k sticker price ( yet they always sell?)
    Remember going to see a car I really wanted, "full dealer history" and a hefty markup on going rate translated into an average condition car with less than a handful of stamps in the book and not a single other anything, erm, no, it twice went to a dealer, that was years ago and in between there's nothing to support wgat isn't in the sump isn't that very same oil...
    Damn thing sold a few days later to some poor Barnard

  • The hunt continues. Luckily I don't need a car on a daily basis, it's mainly a convinient way to visit family, so I'll just keep looking.

  • Took me a little while before the "water pump!" light bulb went off.

  • But how many bikes can I fit in the back? (Or front, I guess...)

  • Flow bench results back, who wants to guess what maximum power the engine designer believes that this engine could put out, if fully developed? This would be a 3.7l flat six spinning at 9,000 rpm.

  • Hmm, 435hp real world, but probably higher bench results because you sound excited by the potential so 560hp

  • 560 would be about the theoretical maximum assuming it's designed to last more than a few hundred miles, but @Dammit has talked about wanting a sensible, tractable road engine so I'd say 80lbft a litre is a good target, which would give 500bhp at 9000rpm.

  • Honestly, it doesn’t sound like that much when you say your car is 23 years old but it’s starting to feel like classic car ownership.

  • I seriously doubt anyone would build a n/a road car engine to produce max power at 9000rpm so yah, I'd be happy with a reliable and accessible 400hp at 7000 😎

  • Intake, 96mm bore (stock, 3.4l), the head outflows the intake manifold by 40 CFM at high lift.

  • Y axis is CFM

  • 96mm bore vs 100mm bore (i.e. 3.7l): gains are larger for the exhaust ports as these valves benefit more from the unshrouding effect of the larger bore

  • Nothing to see here

  • Exhaust - most dramatic results of the test here, as the exhaust CFM figure drops markedly when the tubular manifold is bolted on. Potentially large gains to be realised here with some attention paid to this.
