I've never had a tyre hold pressure for more than half an hour without sealant. Even if it pops onto the rim, it'll still leak pressure until the sealant forms a layer on the tyre bead.

I've had UST tyres on UST rims hold pressure for months without sealant. I think there might be a clue in there somewhere :)

My tyre is still up from whenever I fitted it in this thread. No sealant yet.

I'm fucked if I can get my g-ones to hold pressure. I'm still building the bike so there's no sealant in there, but I rather thought they should seal without it- hopelessly naive?
