Cruxs are better off with a 45x2mm

Tolerances on steerer diameter, bearing housing cut depth and compression ring height mean some might, but others might need the 3mm. That's why people should always measure their own bikes rather than relying on what other people have used.

Thanks. Have to delay all aesthetic improvements until I've got a little more disposable income though.

Went to fit low stack cover to Crux no. 2 and the headset starts to bind up before I've got proper compression, but there's plenty of visible clearance between the headtube and the cover. Is this something the shims are likely to solve?

In some circumstances, if the bearing pokes out of the head tube a long way and the compression ring is nearly flush with the top of the bearing, the radius inside the cover can hit the bearing outer race. You can eliminate this possibility from your enquiries by assembling everything without the cover. If that solves the binding issue, you need a deeper cover and some shims between the compression ring and the cover. If it doesn't, you need to look elsewhere in the system.
