Seems the misleading Mother trailer (plus J Lawrence) is luring unsuspecting cinema goers who unsurprisingly are absolutely hating it.
Same as Under the Skin with Scarlet....Although I do think Aronofsky is a total hack anyway. Black Swan was godawful. I kinda wanna see Mother to see just how bad it is

Last nights viewing,
Wonder Woman was good fun, had the feel of Captain America First Avenger, the set piece fight scenes dragged a bit but overall an entertaining family watch.
All Eyes On Me was much better than the reviews led me to expect, a good fast pace with a lot to fit in and it flew by. Didn't seem particularly balanced the way it treated certain aspects of the story.

Yep. This was us last night. Made all the worse by forgetting how much central LDN cinemas cost!
Assumed it was a creepy horror, rather than the most harrowing film I've ever seen... maybe if I'd known a bit more about it it might not have been quite so disturbing. But it wouldn't have made me think it was good.
It was also too long.
(fwiw I loved Pi, Requiem and Black Swan)

I think this was intentional on Aronofsky's part.

Just read the plot on Wikipedia - Wow.

Just read the plot on Wikipedia - Wow.
What! the! fuck! did I just read?

If you enjoyed the most disturbing scenes from Requiem and the rape scene in Irreversible, but thought to yourself; "I reckon that those bits should've made up at least ⅓ of those films", then I'd say give it a go.

Being serious I think a key flaw is that it's too much.
No spoilers, but a perfect eg is the final scene. There is a sort of twist that I've only found out following some reading this morning. I didn't notice, because once I knew it was almost over relief took over and I stopped concentrating.
I'm sure there's loads in there, but rather than make me want to explore the ideas it just made me want puppies and shit sitcoms.

Watched Kingsman with the teens on Sat. Did not expect to finish an evening of popcorn & movies with parental chat about the pornification of popular culture and the dangers of
the normalisation of anal sex. Fun times. -

The Lost City of Z - enjoyed quite a lot. Charlie Hunnam is not a very good actor.

Wait til you see King Arfer.
It's awful, he is worse. -
• #13690
so his eastenders mitchell brothers-esque acting in sons of anarchy didn't tip you off?
-
• #13691
He was hot in queer as folk though.

Anarchy siblings bypasses me I'm afraid, worth a watch?

its an overwrought biker version of a soap where they're all heartless bloodthirsty criminals who happen to spend their entire time talking about their feelings.
but it's entertaining enough.

American Made, was a bit meh....
looking forward to Detroit though..

Aronofsky was more in love with J Law than making a good film. Over rated nonsense director, although Requiem for a dream is a classic and probably his only good film.
-
• #13696
Fuckin dreadful, unsure of who's trying to make him a leading man but they are failing.
-
• #13697
Still not sure how I feel about mother! but I can definitely understand why it's been so polarizing amongst critics and public.
Seeing Kingsman sequel tomorrow, I'm fully expecting some daft and silly fun with added Tatum. Fine by me.

I could never watch that after they went to Northern Ireland but filmed it in the California hills.

• #13699
EXACTLY the point I stopped watching it too. Absolute garbage.
