  • Stupidest question of the week coming. Those of a sensitive nature should look away. When I asked it of myself today I realised it had never come up in my hearing before (also can't see a direct answer via Google, sorry)

So, if I switch the old single pivot brakes on this bike for some dual pivots I have lying around, do I need different levers or is the cable pull the same?

  • do I need different levers

Depends. Most dual pivots will work fine with the lever pull you had in 1960. Then Shimano started dicking about a few years ago (DA 7900 and then migrating down to Ultegra and 105 etc. next time those groups changed) and changed the cable travel by about 10%. Some people don't notice the difference, some people like using the wrong combination (in both directions), and some snowflakes think you have to throw out all your old things and buy properly matched sets of new stuff.

TL;DR - maybe, but probably not.
