Hm. I'm going to try the Alfine CT500, it's claimed the spring is stiffer than others/derailleurs and it can be laterally adjusted.
Thanks though, I may experiment regardless. -

So I have this Superstar rear hub, 'Switch Ultra-LITE CENTRELOCK' with a QR axle adaptor that screws together inside the hub. 5mm allen key on the NDS, 15mm spanner flats on the DS.
Over time (20 miles or so) the axle adaptor tightens on itself, causing the most annoying squeak and tightness in the bearings that is definitely noticeable. What's the fix? Bit of loctite on the correctly adjusted axle?

I'm talking with someone about buying a 2016 giant defy 1 disc, it seems to have a 24mm pressfit bb. Is the only option for this a chris king?
Does anyone have any glaring reasons I shouldn't buy this frame?
-
• #86205
haha, but theyre so pretty, do you not think this would help?
-

A BB86 pressfit for 24mm spindles? Shimano or GXP BBs depending on cranks normally.

Or options from wheelsmfg and praxis.

Can someone point me in the direction of people or companies who have made bags for top of bike racks? (not panniers, not bar bags)
-
• #86209
Carradice, for one.

"Rack bag" is the term you want to search on https://www.evanscycles.com/bike-accessories/panniers-rack-bags_c/rack_bag-luggage_type

24mm pressfit bb
reasons I shouldn't buy this frameYou've answered your own question there 🙂

• #86212
Will it be that bad? I lurk in the cannondale thread and stories of pressfit and creaks are terrible.

Will it be that bad?
It's the 24mm I object to, not the press.

I hear there's no return from it.Ninja edit ruined my shit joke and greenday reference.

have just bought some shimano mini-vs and they so not sit flush on the surly brake studs or the easton ones on my forks. the slightly stepped part of the stud is what is stopping the movement as far as i can see. it can only be a few mm interference stopping it so should i just take a bit of sandpaper to the hole in the brakes?
edit: like this
-
• #86216
That sounds like a terrible idea. A couple of mm will take forever with emery paper (sandpaper will be too soft), the hole will not be round nor parallel.
-
• #86217
As far as I'm aware they don't have to sit flush to the backplate. Would have thought they would bind, in that case. Is there any sliding movement on the posts when they're tightened up? Do they rotate freely?
-
• #86218
I hear you, but i feel it should fit so there may just be a small amount of extra material somewhere that is preventing them seating properly. Also, by sandpaper i mean sandpaper on dremel so should be relatively easy.
-
• #86219
they work, everything is fine, just seems wrong that there should be that gap. the end of the spring arm sits in the little whole, the brakes have a small amount of slide. i tightened up the bolts as far as i dared, didn't want to really tighten incase the studs pull into the v brakes in a disastrous manner

Forgive me if this sounds a stupid question, but what exactly is the difference between a gravel bike and a touring bike other than a tourer can carry shit load of stuff including the kitchen sink?
-
• #86221
Without racks.
-
• #86222
Yes, forgot that bit, edited OP. Is that it?

Stupidest question of the week coming. Those of a sensitive nature should look away. When I asked it of myself today I realised it had never come up in my hearing before (also can't see a direct answer via Google, sorry)
So, if I switch the old single pivot brakes on this bike for some dual pivots I have lying around, do I need different levers or is the cable pull the same?
-
• #86224
do I need different levers
Depends. Most dual pivots will work fine with the lever pull you had in 1960. Then Shimano started dicking about a few years ago (DA 7900 and then migrating down to Ultegra and 105 etc. next time those groups changed) and changed the cable travel by about 10%. Some people don't notice the difference, some people like using the wrong combination (in both directions), and some snowflakes think you have to throw out all your old things and buy properly matched sets of new stuff.
TL;DR - maybe, but probably not.

all my v brakes/mini vs have a space in between the bosses and the brakes. its fine.
keep the dremel from the ec70!
Readily available, designed for lateral movement so doesn't get trashed by side-impacts, free if you have one you're not using.
Also can get better chain wrap on the sprocket without slapping the chain against the stay.
