they work, everything is fine, just seems wrong that there should be that gap. the end of the spring arm sits in the little whole, the brakes have a small amount of slide. i tightened up the bolts as far as i dared, didn't want to really tighten incase the studs pull into the v brakes in a disastrous manner

As far as I'm aware they don't have to sit flush to the backplate. Would have thought they would bind, in that case. Is there any sliding movement on the posts when they're tightened up? Do they rotate freely?
