Not sure if it's this stuff but a lot of my customers have been using some kind of biologically friendly lube, it turns to hardened cheese after a few weeks/months and is very horrible to remove requiring many horrible chemicals.
I use chain saw lube on my motorbike chain and yeah it wash off when submerged in water, but the rest if the time does a good job with minimal fling, easy to clean off afterwards and I think I'm right in saying isn't terrible for environment?
