2017-09-16 Rider down Hammersmith - minor injuries.

  • Walked past an incident a couple of hours ago. Rider was down, bike under the car. Driver didn't see rider and went right into him. Luckily traffic was stationary and she was driving into the carriage from a side road.

Rider was on the ground but conscious and was sitting. Clearly shocked and with pain in legs and arms. Someone called ambulance.

Helped driver get the bike unstuck from under her car (left pedal was slammed stuck into front car mudguard)

Rider was on the protected contraflow cycle track, clearly she only looked for oncoming traffic without checking for riders on the cycle track.
Luckily nothing serious but could have been worse.

  • That cycle lane is not the best. Hope he's ok and not too shaken

  • She didn't look shaken, he (the rider) was.

  • Edit

  • I am not sure of the use of the word protected:

Rider was on the protected contraflow cycle track,

contraflow tracks on one way streets dramatically increase the risk of collisions at junctions like this.

  • Sadly drivers don't look the other way on one way system.
Cyclist should expect the worse I won't move until I've made eye contact.
I hate this did despite it being segregated I'd rather go behind with cars and buses. Feels safer rather then skinny bike lane full of deliveries and people.
There is improvement pencilled in for the one way system at broadway/station. And eventually cs9.
    Don't hold your breath.
