Offered: Cycle Trailer Hire

Posted on
  • My girlfriend and I just bought a carry freedom y-frame (large) last week. These excellent trailers can carry up to 95kg of kit and hitch to pretty much any bike - she towed home a set of vintage g-plan draws today and says it was a piece of cake - check out the link below for more information on the trailer.

    We will mainly be using it at the weekend and rather than have it stand in the hallway all week we wondered if there would be any demand on the forum for hiring it out. There would be a small charge and we were thinking £5 half day, £10 full day £40 for a week (Mon-Fri) and10% of profits going into the forum toward server costs.

    We would really appreciate any feedback and thoughts on things such as deposits (these trailers are not cheap at £180(ish) for the large:

  • Great idea. Will be well up for a rent soon. Where you based?

  • Stoke Newington but for a small extra charge may be willing to drop the trailer off (within a reasonable distance).

  • Don't forget to lower the tyres pressure if you're riding without anything on it, it hop like mad.

  • I'm gonna build one of these any time soon, for fun. I think charging £200 for a trailer is a bit steep, considering how simple they actually are.
    They are really useful, however.

  • For £200 it's a lots of trailer for the money, they're really light, stiff, and the best part is - flexible.

    for instance, I can able to connect djm's trailer to mine with a few screw to create a trailer snake, the arm can be extended if you find it too short for what you need, the wheelbase can be extended too, etc.

    I have a free home-made trailer from an old shitty kids trailer, and the Carry Freedom one, the £200 difference is defintely noticable, most especially on the weight limit front.

    The best trailer I've seen insofar is the Bike At Work's one which can carry a huge amount of weight and come in different length;

  • its a metal square frame with a piece of wood on top with a bent piece of metal to join it to the bike.

    ^that however looks a bit daft.

  • Give it a try mate, don't forget to figure out a way to secure it to the bike though.

  • i'm going to. I'm a very price conscious consumer, and £200, although out of my range in reality is also out of range of what i would consider a fair price.

    I gather it's probably British/USA/European made, hence the high price. Middle east would make it £50, where people like me would probably step up an buy one.

  • Look at the price list for other trailer;

    I still think it's a fair price, it's probably appear outrageous because of the value of the trailer cost as much as a decent second hand bike.

    totally

  • I think one other point to consider is there are plenty of cheaper trailers out there however most of them - well all that I have seen can only carry up to a recommended weight of 30-40kg. The large y-frame takes up to 95kg.

    Anyway - this is meant to be a thread about people interested in hiring our trailer so if there is any demand please let us know - as mentioned we intend donating 10% of any profit to the forum.
