Bicycle academy?

So we went to Stroud to see Ted today and we have decided on a titanium frame with possibly a ti fork too, possibly a Ted handmade stem and bars combo to help ease the chronic pain on shoulders and arms (to be decided after bike fit) and we spoke about a few interesting ideas. He is such a legend!!!!! And I am gonna have a fucking awesome bicycle!!!!! :-D
Might have to sell both kidneys now... :-D
I don't care what everybody thinks, as soon as more firm decisions are made, I am going to have my own MY SuperTed BIKE thread! :-P

Nice. Ted's one of the best going, and easily one of the best value for money in the UK.

Not sure August Cycles have had a mention in this thread ? They are doing some good stuff.

Does SuperTed have a website?
Edit: yes

Ted has more interesting sutff going on his Instagram page, his cute children included, whom we also met - the future frame builders in the making!
-
• #333
Also, a lot of what Ted does isn't frames, but more geared towards manufacturing. He was doing Reynolds 44mm headtubes for a year or two as an example.

if I could afford it, I would have Ted make the whole bike from scratch, down to the last cable...

By the way, I have had my first "What? You crazy woman, it's only a bit of metal!" Haters gotta hate.... innit.

Glad you said it. I can't really, despite having three of them, given I'm married to the guy behind August Bicycles!

Thanks. I'll add the website later.

Any chance of getting http://www.augustbicycles.cc in there too? Pretty pleeeease?

Does anyone know anything about Chaingang Cycles? This touring bike was made by them. I have heard that Chaingang were a cooperative group in the 1980s, but I'd be grateful for any further details.

A more up-to-date version of the list of UK framebuilders, in a Google spreadsheet.
Anyone can view/make suggestions, but I can provide edit access if anyone asks for it.

Sorry, I didn't see this at the time, @Shannonball. Chaingang was a shop at Clapton Pond, formerly a branch of Yellow Jersey (a London mini-chain of four shops that operated until the late 80s or early 90s, don't know when they stopped). It was run by Darren (don't know his surname). Tom Board worked there for a while and taught Darren about framebuilding (although I'm sure he'd also learnt somewhere else). It was my local shop and I went there quite a lot until it closed sometime in the early 00s. I then heard that Darren had taken up framebuilding from home (in North-west London?) and I bumped into him one more time at Critical Mass a few years later, but I don't know what he does now, or indeed whether this frame was built by him or Tom. Darren should still be around somewhere, but I heard at least ten years ago that Tom had gone into a nursing home, and I don't know if he's still alive. He was already quite old when I met him. Hope this still helps!

Albannach, lovely custom titanium frames from Glasgow starting from £1500.
(Ignore, have just seen the Google spread sheet...doh!)

I have converted @EvilDMP's spreadsheet onto a google map which you can view
If you comment on his spreadsheet with postcodes or other details then the map could be made more accurate. At present location is done to the nearest city.

Hesson Labs based in Lewisham. Tom is actually on here (can't remember his alias). Veteran of the lfgss scene. He used race fixed gear crits alongside myself and knows how to push bikes to the limit.

Hi, does anyone have recent contact details for Kevin Winter by any chance? - assuming he's still building frames..
The last email address i had was @wanadoo.co.uk but it doesn't look like this domain exists now.Cheers

From what I've read on The Paceline he's more into making knives than bikes now, for what that's worth.

I thought this was about Eric from Winter Bicycles...who is also making knives...and he’s American

Thanks.
Shame, he built me a Columbus XCr frame a few years back - i was interested in what he might be able to do in carbon.
Just don't believe anything he says regarding time frames.
