Fitted my custom 53mm one today, had to ream 0.5mm off the steerer bore to get it to fit over my carbon steerer but then again that is a bit tight on everything, fitted perfectly on alloy steerers. Very pleased indeed thanks @mdcc_tester

Should acetone that stem and just leave the one Pro up the right way :)

I would have if it weren't Laser etched

Your steerer must be pretty fat, the bores on current production are already 28.7mm

0.5mm is probably an exaggeration. Just a couple of loops with the reamer. Out of interest what was the order of operations for making these?

Bore, profile interior, profile exterior and part off.

Ah I'm stupid I was thinking the parting off was happening before the profiling, which is obviously the wrong thing to do because it's be way to Fragile

Slammed (and saved about 40 grams all in, those cone spacers are not light):
Thanks for the quick postage @mdcc_tester.
For future reference, aluminium Specialized Cruxs are better off with a 45x2mm.

Definitely needs one of my top caps to tidy up above the stem. Free postage for you as you inadvertently paid double postage on the headset covers.

Tolerances on steerer diameter, bearing housing cut depth and compression ring height mean some might, but others might need the 3mm. That's why people should always measure their own bikes rather than relying on what other people have used.

Some of that tightness could be from the steerer bung forcing the carbon tube to expand out a little. Looks great though. Acetone ftw! (EDIT just seen lasers)

Oh really? Not the same one, but I have a Pro PLT that I removed the logos from, figured they'd be the same

Thanks. Have to delay all aesthetic improvements until I've got a little more disposable income though.
Went to fit low stack cover to Crux no. 2 and the headset starts to bind up before I've got proper compression, but there's plenty of visible clearance between the headtube and the cover. Is this something the shims are likely to solve?

In some circumstances, if the bearing pokes out of the head tube a long way and the compression ring is nearly flush with the top of the bearing, the radius inside the cover can hit the bearing outer race. You can eliminate this possibility from your enquiries by assembling everything without the cover. If that solves the binding issue, you need a deeper cover and some shims between the compression ring and the cover. If it doesn't, you need to look elsewhere in the system.

Hi, could I please get a headset bearing cover in black for a cervelo p3c 2009 model, and also a black one for my 2017 caad12? I would like to use PayPal if possible?
Many thanks -
• #792
Check your heights, should be 47x2 for the CAAD and 45x2 for the P3, but sometimes they come with taller compression rings. If it's for delivery to the UK, paying straight into my bank will be cheaper.

One 45x3 and one 45x2 please. It's time to STS on some Cervelos.

I'm looking for one for my cinelli vigorelli (the old one with the external cup headset). The measurements are 46mm diameter and 4mm height.
Am I right in thinking I need a 4mm cover and then shim the compression ring by 0.3mm? Would a 3mm cover leave a 0.7mm gap?
-
• #795
Got anything to suit a supersix evo. 47mm I guess?

Yes.

Probably 47×2, but check for yourself as there's a fair bit of tolerance variation on compression ring height

Has anyone had one for a caad12? I’m too lazy to measure

Yes, and it's 47×2 or 47×3 depending on how your individual tolerances stack up, so you still need to measure. I have both in stock; if you're really that lazy I'll sell you both :)

I’m lazy, I’m not rich! Better to go for 2 I suppose since it’s better for it to sit high than bottom out. I was after something 5mm deep to get me 20mm lower over he current 25mm one. Shall I just add a small spacer or is 5mm deep possible
Perfect, PM incoming.
