You don't have to purhase/use any of the deliveroo clothing or bags. You can use your own but they say this has to meet their 'safety guidelines' which are not published anywhere. They will tell you that kit which meets all the Deliveroo 'safety guidelines' can be purchased from them at ridiculous prices.
I have been using my own backpack with a thermal bag inside. I have never had anyone from Deliveroo confirm its ok to use. I have also seen other riders just put the small thermal bag on a front rack or rear pannier rack.
The new system is worse. You actually have to buy the equipment and it's yours to keep. Having to buy things before you start work just seems like that start of a pyramid scheme.
Whereas with the deposit you could return it all and get your money back.
