I ended up getting 2 x 500g bags from GoodnessDirect for under £5 plus the nutritional yeast and some other stuff brought the shipping up to 'free'.
Made my first batch (steamed) a couple of days ago ... early days
Thanks for the seasoning tip! - I'm going to experiment.

Looking good. Those slices of log have been the basis of many fine meals in our house lately.
Next time make some wee nugget bits so you can make wings ;)

Went to the new Mildreds in Dalston last night. Really decent food, the desserts in particular were fantastic. Looks like they've done a good job inside as the last couple of places struggled with the space. Also, quite reasonable price wise. Will go back.

Now carnivore approved, one of the knuckle draggers I work with rated them as better than Greggs. I'm honoured :/

Better than Greggs! That's amazing praise.

Where's good to get something quick in Soho? I'm off to a stag do tonight and everyone else is off to a place with one of the least vegan friendly menus I've ever seen. I want to nip off and get something decent to soak up all the terrible lager I plan on consuming.

Vegan Hippo? I've never been but while it had poor reviews at first, after they relaunched it seems to have become better, judging by people's verdicts.

Apologies, not upto date on this thread.
I applaud them, and we need more businesses to make a stand on unmixed feedstocks.Back in the '80s, the Body Shop effect meant that all the major European chemical manufacturers had to get their act together and guarantee that their fatty acid feedstocks, (used in foostuffs for emulsifiers, toiletries, [often the same emulsifiers used for handcreams & lotions], soaps, shampoos, conditioners), were clearly separated between vegetable and animal sources.
Grudgingly this was achieved,
and the costs of rendering animal fats were no longer spread over the whole Food Economy, but contained within that part of the processed food industry that supplies meat eaters.
Forward 30 years and the (US) pushers of GMO materials have seen the costs of discrete supply chains, and, more importantly, consumers exercising their right to choose.
We now have the situation where even retailers who one might have thought have some residue of integrity, (Coop, M&S), are rolled over by the likes of Cargill, and now tell their customers that they cannot guarantee products are GMO-free.Having won, (via this back door), market presence for GMO contaminated feedstocks, the chemical companies see no point, (and dividend-reducing costs), in maintaining the hard won separation of vegetable & animal feedstocks.
Quite how I personally boycott the new £10 note I have yet to quantify.

Interesting, thanks. I didn't realise it was connected to a global issue with the chemical industry.

Burger time at the Vegan Market today. I tried two of the four available, Temple of Seitan and Eat Chay, and have felt no need to eat anything since (although see below for what else contributed to that). Both were good, although the ToS one should have had more of the 'cheese' sauce, and the kimchi on the Eat Chay one, while very good kimchi, felt a bit like a strange addition. I'd happily eat that by the pound on its own, but I didn't think it went too well with the burger.
The unexpected (as I didn't realise she'd be there) highlight of the market was the offering by the forum's very own and very awesome @tika, who now trades as 'Sourdough Mess' and apart from cookies also makes bread and ice cream. Oh my word, the 'Ice Cream Sandwich' with two cookies and two different kinds of ice cream was easily the tastiest sweet treat I've had all year. I had salted caramel and chocolate and everything was utterly delicious. She has an Instagram page, and the web-site is http://www.sourdoughmess.com/. I would have eaten another one if I'd had any space left.

Sounds delicious and disgusting, which is the general vibe of the Fat Gay market! I do enjoy it as a treat.
