A much nicer place to be looking, even if it's lacking in topiary.

That's the kinda thing we need
I hate to say it.

I wonder what the response would be if I asked for a stiff discount?

You'd get shafted

Have you seriously considered the long term maintenance on these large dwellings ?
Might be making a rod for your back. -

Amen to that...
I went from a 3 bed semi with cavity wall insulation, double glazing and underfloor heating. LED Lights etc etc etc...(£90 per month for electric / gas)
now in a 5 bed Victorian and am currently paying £270 per month for gas & electric
I used to flounce around in shorts and t-shirt all year, I am now a PJ / Jumpers & Slippers man.
I used to keep a 4 tog duvet on all year, i bought a 13.5 tog duvet last year..
you get the idea....

It's full of cunts. All that area around Chiselhurst, Elmstead Woods and Bickley is full of UKIP/Tory wankers.

plus 1
( I'm not that 1 btw )

full of cunts
'nice' places often are but there is nothing like a gated property to keep them out :)

• #19466
More seriously, Chislehurst is a bit builder/footballer/hairdresser, but has a reasonable high street if you can ignore the conversations around you, Elmstead Woods is up its own arse and there's not much going on, and for Bickley, see above. But for all their shortcomings I'd take any of them over StMC.

Ok, well - if we eliminate all of them, what do we have left?
Extra points for whoever finds an affordable Oast house, windmill, or other slight oddity.

Nein!
Eynsford looks nice, can't find anywhere I'd want in the right price bracket mind.

Different listing for the St Mary Cray one - it's a huge site: https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/42439793?search_identifier=3239a8a52fd3eb77964d429525e857b0#6ugl7rAfTqSVjbWp.97

He's not wrong though...
Chatterton Road end of bickley is nicer / more community focused but head towards the station and chislehurst and it's wall to wall cunts.

My one bed ground floor flat involves enough maintenance for me. Speaking of which...
The front of our house (i.e. the house we share with our upstairs neighbour) needs painting.
Next door have some builders in doing theirs at the moment. They seem like nice genuine chaps and are local.
They've quoted us £1500 for painting all the masonry, windows and the front door. Including paint. It's a three story house.
This seems like a good price to me, although to be honest I have no idea how much it should cost. I do know they get their scaffolding cheap from someone down the road and obviously there's a saving for them if they only have to move it next door for the next job.
Does £1500 seem like a good deal?

In all seriousness, I'm very interested in this: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-63868604.html
Question is, could you get a mortgage on this, or would the bank only lend on the house part?

You'd easily build another big detached house on the side of that.
£800k purchase price.
Get planning for a detached house worth about £650k on the side.
Sell plot for c. £300k.
Own big house with more manageable garden for £500k.Or if you're really into it, sell on the old house and build your dream pad on the plot.
You'd never get tired of reading your address out to people: https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/43926048?search_identifier=1ed9e748c1047880927c340212fac0cd#Ci6L1WMRmOgPS7mK.97
