'nice' places often are but there is nothing like a gated property to keep them out :)

More seriously, Chislehurst is a bit builder/footballer/hairdresser, but has a reasonable high street if you can ignore the conversations around you, Elmstead Woods is up its own arse and there's not much going on, and for Bickley, see above. But for all their shortcomings I'd take any of them over StMC.
