  • When I started working for Deliveroo you had to pay the £150 kit deposit, regardless of whether or not you actually took all of the gear. That was about a year ago though, don't know if that's still the case. As far as the uniform regulations go, I'd totally ignore it. Wear whatever you think is appropriate. Deliveroo won't enforce any uniform rules as they're eager to avoid anything that would help the people that work for them argue that they're employees rather than self employed contractors. At least that was the impression I got from a meeting between the union I was part of when I worked for Deliveroo and middle management.

  • They no longer use the £150 kit deposit. All riders purchase any equipiment they need through the 'Rider Kit Store'.

You don't have to purhase/use any of the deliveroo clothing or bags. You can use your own but they say this has to meet their 'safety guidelines' which are not published anywhere. They will tell you that kit which meets all the Deliveroo 'safety guidelines' can be purchased from them at ridiculous prices.

I have been using my own backpack with a thermal bag inside. I have never had anyone from Deliveroo confirm its ok to use. I have also seen other riders just put the small thermal bag on a front rack or rear pannier rack.

  • I take it that since I started when you had to do the £150 thing, I'm in that till it's paid off now?

Bit of a bummer as I've never worn the tshirt or cycling top, I tried the jacket once but it's like an extra thick upper body condom, I sweated myself to death in it. Plus they only had xxxxl or something ridiculous.

I'd happily give all that back if it meant they'd stop taking half my wages. (I hardly ever do it so still paying it off).

I just binned the phone holder the other day though...hmmm...

  • Ah right! Seems like a much better system than having to spend £150 on the shittest equipment known to man.
