It's quite wide though isn't it. I don't need anything big, something similar size to Bigxtop rando bag
-
• #3253
Yeah that's the one I was looking at. Nice quality?
-
• #3254
Yep, no issues with the quality at all, classic Carradice. I've found it's big enough to fit all my commuting bits in there (and a couple of tubes, tools etc).
Only possible complaint is the lack of external pockets to grab stuff on the move, but opening the flap is easy when not moving.

How did you find the Ti Parts easy wheel replacements? Dear $deity they cost a silly amount of money.
Having bought a Brompton as a present for somebody who is really going to need better (and larger) rollers than the default on an M6L, I've been looking for alternatives but the whole secondary Brompton accessories/parts ecosystem works on the "You have a Brompton, you have silly money" principle. Guess I'll be wandering down to Decathlon and looking at the inline skate wheels option.

They looked nice.......
Didn't ever really use them for wheeling the bike - other than under my desk - always carried it.....

She has the upper body strength of linguini and has been captivated by pictures of people walking into a supermarket with a big shopping bag on the front, flipping the rear wheel and using the bike as a shopping trolley.
-
• #3258
Has she ever seen it happen in real life?!
-
• #3259
I have, always found it weird, my upper body strength is a 'tagliatelle'
-
• #3260
I haven't.
A few years ago I'd say I was Penne-strength. I've expanded to a somewhat Canneloni size now.

tell her to go to a larger supermarket, where they have those trolleys which are like larger baskets on wheels. Fold brompton, dump in trolley, wheel it and shopping bag around, do shopping, take brompton out of trolley, unfold and ride away..

Problem solved - she's shopping at to small a supermarket

This is exactly how my minimal stupormarket shopping gets done.
The bulk of my stupormarket shopping is delivered to my home by the stupormarket.
I lean towards vermicelli, when it comes to upper body strength.@itsbruce Buy her a yacht and moor it somewhere nice and warm. Like say, Marbella.
It'll work out cheaper than trying to make a Brompton lighter. DAHIKT. -

Something BMMF found on flickr once.

It does work but the issue is convincing the shop that you're not stealing all of their stuff as you wander around putting it in your bag.
-
• #3268
It's waitrose - they let you do that now. There's an app you use...
It only half feels like stealing, but if you are anything like me and you've eaten half the shop before you get to the checkout then you won't be put off.

I think I need to replace my BB. There is a bit of pinging and clicking under load and you can make the ping happen by spinning the cranks backwards when riding, making me think it's the bearings (fingers crossed it's not the hinge yet, I can't detect any play in any case).
I wondered about a UN55 as a more durable replacement. I have the newer JIS cranks so that opens it up but wondered about spindle length. The Brompton unit is labelled 119mm but the pics of it show a Stronglight 122.5. Has anyone tried a Shimano replacement and if so did they go for the 122.5mm?

Titanium seatpost will make a noticeable difference. Check the weight though as there's a light one and a not so light one.
-
• #3271
Or just use the Brompton seatposr height shim that come with the bike instead.
Does it come inserted already, so you just fish it out and trim it, or is it the kind of thing that comes in a bag along with manual etc?
-

The latter, only the shop had forgotten to give me the bag.
First time I've ever had to look properly at a Brompton seatpost/saddle arrangement. Didn't realise they had a retro separate clamp. So much better than any of the built-in clamps I've wrestled with.

Got a rear puncture this morning. General online consensus is that it’s a ball ache so I’m not even going to attempt it in my lunch break (also has a marathon tyre). My SA hub has been slipping in 3rd and the RD sticks so is no longer used. I’ve been putting it off so it seems to make sense to tackle all together.
…So a couple of Qs:
• can anyone recommend a good SA hub gear set up tutorial and a Brompton derailleur one?
• I intend to replace the gear cable. Do I need to worry about the little chain thingy, or do they more or less last the life of the hub?
• Does the hive think the rear derailleur just needs a solid clean, re-cable, and lube?
• Are there any other service jobs I should be thinking about at the same time?Cheers.
Carradice Stockport is good. I got mine from their eBay outlet for quite a bit less than the rrp but I think I'd still be happy with it if I had paid full price.
