Gudereit weltmeister cyclocross touring mode

  • Hi, as there is more and more touring bikes in forum i will introduce mine.
This bike had many different roles and styles and changed mainly over the time. Perhaps will change again soon.

At first then i bought it i only knew it was a Reynolds 453 frame with cantilevers and both rack mounts.
As i needed it for commuting it soon get some parts that made it really robust single speed commuter.
Only few parts still left from first build its Campy record headset and some unknown seatpost.

then it was made to be sscx

and again to commuter mode. I started to hear and feel some sounds from frame, it looked like bottom bracket has his life ended. After looking all the bike i saw long crack around heat tube and downtube lug. hmm sad news.
The crack was welded, but i wasn't feeling quite optimistic about it. btw most of frame was already sanded for repainting. I started to think is it worth it. Maybe it could break again soon. so i just put few layers of lacquer and started to ride.
I wanted to explore my country more and road bike wasn't the best choice. Gudereit time has come and it reborn again.
I was really happy to put front rack and make durable setup.
    it went with this

and sometimes i used it for bikepacking like for Prague-Berlin trip

  • About bicycle
    Frame:
    Gudereit Weltmeister Reynolds 453
    Fork/Headset:
    Gudereit Weltmeister Reynolds 453/Campagnolo Record
    Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
right Campagnolo c-record/left mavic and bb will change Shimano UN26 to UN55
    Pedals:
    Shimano M520
    Derailleurs/Shifters:
    Shimano Alivio/Claris/ Simplex friction shifters
    Handlebars/Stem:
    Planet x compact/Uno
    Brakes:
    Shimano cyclocross/Trp levers
    Front Wheel/Hub/Tire:
    SP-8 dynamo hub/Mavic 319 /Shwalbe Marathon 28c
    Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire:
    Shimano LX hub/Mavic 319 /Shwalbe Marathon 28c
    Accessories:
Tubus Tara rack, Buschel usb dynamo light

what i really love is Simplex friction shifters. i doesn't matter how derailleur feels in the evening it will shift always great. and you can shift almost all cassette up or down.

Trp levers are super comfortable and changing bars to compact was one of best decisions i think

Buschel front light is great with its price and ability to charge you phone.

The build is not like touring porn or something epic, but all parts work as they should work and i just love feeling of having robust totality.

now I put Fizik Arione saddle and hand made frame bag.
for Arione, it was very strange how it could be true, but it fits so perfect. both for training both for touring trips.
and frame bag was so refreshing after pain of opening and closing Vaude panniers during the stop

  • Nice.

How is the light coping with that position up on the rack loop? I've been thinking of doing the same but hesitate to put mine there as it doesn't much like water - I figure in heavy rain water will throw forwards from the tyre.

  • well I was thinking the same thing, but tried and everything is okay, and even less water then mounting light on cantilever boss.
Just worried a little about usb port, cause its at the bottom of light, so I don't use charging in heavy rain conditions.

  • nice bike. I never heard of 453 before. how did you attach the bottle cage to the forks?

  • yes, i also never heard about 453 tubing till got this frame. it was attached with thread to braze on and strap.
Strange, but this frame has braze ons only for one bottle cage. For simple and effective way to attach cages I used tape and zippers. Although in future thinking to make braze ons for bottle cages.

  • That's a beautiful rack!

  • Very nice this. Proper patina :)

  • well its fully equipped for heavy touring at least from rack point :D
tried rear panniers and its great, really liked the handling in forest or gravel roads, but on asphalt with such geo think I prefer front panniers more, its much better response and stability to have weight in front

    from weekend trip
