My eyes and brain are going a little funny after a 10 days long non-stop reading and writing (not on bikes... ) so please some nice people sum up this for me:
Wha is advantage on stainless steel over normal steel other than it doesn't rust? Getting closer with finalising what I want and I am sure when I finally meet the frame builder, they will change my mind completely in some ways... huh... (No I don't think I will go Isen afterall)

Avoid Argos unless you want your bike painted with stove enamel from the 70's.

I would like a bike in burnt orange and velour brown- where should I go?
-
• #312
Mario or this up and coming artisanal fame painter in crystal palace .. I think he goes by @coldharbour
-
• #313
Who does this chap work with?
-
• #314
Don't you already have a bike in burnt orange?
I meant paints from the 70's, not colours from the 70's...

Enamel painting is still one of the toughest finishes about that's why Brompton use it.
-
• #316
It may be tough, but tough and quality are two different things.
-
• #317
Bromptons are powder coated not enamelled. Stove enamel could be tough, but all the good stuff was taken out years ago as it gave you all over body cancer, so its crap compared to what you had on your Raleigh record nowadays.

Ffs I am NOT AN ARTISAN, I am an untried chancer pretending to be an engineer, we've been through this.
Also, I don't paint other peoples bikes, @hoops is the one you want.

I had a very nice pint of ale from the Wye Valley Brewery last week on the way to Green Man Festival, and thought of this thread...
Sorry, anyway, as you were. ;-)

I would like a steel fork for my IF Crown Jewels. Fairly standard stuff, 1,1/8 steerer, Axle to crown 367mm, 43 rake, but clearance for 30mm tyer. From an aesthetic point of view I'd like it to be a straight blade. Does anybody in the UK make stuff like that ? if they do, would it cost more than £300* ?
*the point at which I should just go and by an Enve fork which will tick most of the above boxes.

367a-c and 30c tyre is going to be the sticking point. Price wise there are plenty of people who'd do a fork for £300, it's just whether it is the aesthetic you want that will be the question
-
• #323
Yeah I had a feeling that might be the issue. In all likely hood I'm unlikely to put anything larger than a 28c tyre on it which is a more normal isn't it.

We are going to Stroud this week, guess why? No doubt pictures will follow!! :-D

Try Steve goff probably the best value frame builder in uk
Not that I've seen, torque wise it'll be no worse than high gear mashers in general, and if ran ss it's only a compressional load affecting that area. I'd have thought? I'm guessing it creased on the dimple and failed there. I'd just get Winston to fillet on new ones, there's no concern about undercutting at the weld on the BB or drop outs so can throw as much heat as you want at it...
