i couldn't find out much about it online, any ideas whether it's trustworthy?

I'm not sure what, other than expediency, persuaded Look to go with that horrid design, but at least it was likely to have been lovingly hand crafted in Tunisia rather than thrown together in China :) Save a few pence and do the shop a favour by bypassing ebay if you decide to go for it http://occabike.fr/55-tiges-de-selle#/fabricant-look but personally if I wanted somebody in France to send me an inline 27.2 seat post I'd go with this https://www.acycles.co.uk/pro-lt-seatpost-black-offset-0mm-13062.html which is going to be about the same weight if you cut it to the same length, also available in the UK for a bit less once you factor in postage.

650b X 42mm tyres. I can just pop a 26" inner tube in there (with the correct valve type) right?
-
• #86005
Thanks for the info! The LOOK would be nice in keeping with the french theme of the build but I'm having second thoughts whether carbon is the way to go. What makes you say that the design is horrid? just in terms of aesthetics or is it functionally flawed?

Yes, 559→584 is within the stretching range of a tube.

Aesthetics and function. They look horrible, and the bar which anchors the bolt heads is trying to open up the tube. It's possible that Look made the plug that the cradle rests on long enough to support the anchor bar, in which case it's just an aesthetic problem because that would isolate the rail clamping loads from the tube.

Well, I guess that means I'll look for something else. Cheers!

how come there is water vapour in the air when water only boils at 100 degrees?
-
• #86010
Boiling just means the vapour pressure has exceeded the local atmospheric pressure. Liquids have some lower equilibrium vapour pressure at temperatures below that.
-
• #86011
If they didn't, you'd never be able to smell any liquids.
-
• #86012
Vic: Can you smell wee?
Bob: No.
Vic: What, not even if it's really close?
-
• #86013
Liquids have some lower equilibrium vapour pressure at temperatures below that
Whoa. Slow down :)
-
• #86014
Liquids can turn into vapour below their boiling point, temperature and pressure of both the liquid and the atmosphere affect how much and how fast. See also: dew forming in the morning when the temperature drops enough for the water vapour to condense out (dew point).
p.s. Water doesn't only boil at 100°C :D

Hello!
Will Shimano mini brake br-r353 / 463 etc fit 45mm velo orange mudguards? And will they work with 10 speed 105 brifters? -
• #86016
In fact, isn't zero degrees the triple point of water, in that it is the temperatures at which water can be solid, liquid and vapour all together?
-
• #86017
isn't zero degrees the triple point of water
Ish, if you're using Celsius
-
• #86018
0.01 degrees c and something like 0.006 atmospheres, I think.

Hey guys, been looking at inspirational people and came across John Britten! What a guy.
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any other similar people. And maybe any movies etc!
I watched Klunkerz which is a great film about builders and designers of the MTB scene. Simulate stuff would be cool.
Lemme know!

Not quite the same pioneer as Britten but equally as adept at making do with what he had to hand:
Ken Warby - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Warby
He's held the water speed record since the 70's in a boat built with hand tools on his driveway. Tried buying a jet engine from the US air force and they told him it was too secret so he bought an older one that had been scrapped and "rebuilt" it.
Didn't have any tools that could repair the damaged turbine blades or any that could even grind/shape them so he smashed the damaged blades out with a hammer and cold chisel then smashed the opposite blades to try and balance it up.
Then strapped himself into the thing and did 300 mph on water, plenty have tried to break it since but no one has managed.

Weight reduction. :)

Hello fellow lfgss'rs
Does anyone had experience sending a box to Singapore? It'll be a frameset
Want to know the actual cost amd shopping company
Cheers
-
• #86023
try parcel2go.com. measurements for frameset would be about 95cm (keep length under a meter, its cheaper), width 15-20cm, height 55-60cm. weight around 3/4 kg depending on packaging and frameset weight.

What's a good 1" threadless headset for my new Bob Jackson? Not up for spending Chris King money (unless anyone's got one going 2nd hand?). Currently thinking either Cane Creek 40 or FSA Orbit X. Ideally black, I think. Which is better out of those two and are there any other good options around the £30 mark?

That's awesome, anymore information on him. Britten has a good set of films if you're interested.
The rear is getting rebuilt on a new track hub so there will be a shinyness mismatch.
I can live with that for now.
