Facny looking after a seriously traumatized cat? I have no relation to any party involved, but I just feel that a western person with a different mindset (more open, wouldn't lock a cat in a cage because they scrtach the odd sofa, wouldn't force their cat for a cuddle or selfie etc) would probably do this cat a world of good. I am from HK so I know how weird some cat people can be in HK.
His skull got eaten by bugs but he is on the mend after going through a lot of expensive treatments and will be leaving hospital in a couple of weeks. I think the woman who rescued him is looking foa a foster home for this cat pretty urgently.

But at least he is making good progress. They cut a big piece of his skin from his neck to cover his head. I think they might have taken his balls away while they were at it.. Not sure...

That's extraordinary. I thought rescue cats with serious/expensive injuries usually get put down? Especially somewhere like HK.

With official charities yes they do get put down, even the healthy ones. Last year there was a lost cat who got 'rescued' by the HK SPCA, he had an owner but with no microchip. The owner came forward and wanted to take the cat home but the SPCA refused on the grounds that she failed to provide a picture of her and the cat together, she provided tons of pics of the cat, but not good enough. So instead she said she was happy to pay the rehoming fees and rehome her own cat again, as did many cat lovers came forward putting in the same request. However, the vets said the cat was deemed aggressive thus not suitable for 're-homing'. They killed the cat 7 days later, despite an on-going dispute regarding the ownership of the cat and whether the cat was actually aggressive or was he just scared of what was happening. The boss of the SPCA covered the killing of the cat for a further 2 weeks before revealing that cat was long dead. It made it to the national newpaper.
7 days is all captured stray cats will have with the big official charities, which is why a lot of people would rather go to parks and alleyways or what have you to feed stray cats every day than bringing them in. It's created a social problem with people who love cats and people don't mind them vs people who just don't like animals. A lot of the time stray cats get poisoned from their regular feeds because they have learnt to trust their feeders who would leave food out on the same spot regularly, but some selfish people who would put rat posion or other harmful stuff in the mix. It's sad.
As a result of the long lasting killing rather than ignoring or saving culture, there have been a lot of independant cat volunteers and semi-official but not really cat chairties (basically a bunch of friends with loads of spare time and love for animals) who would do just this - rescue as long as they stand a chance. They usually set up a FB page to ask for donation, like this kitty here. I think this woman has raised around £3k so far in the last few weeks, which sort of just about cover the on-going vet bills.
This pic is a cat called Lucy, lost her eyes due to neglact of cat flu, also got rescued by the same woman
Someone else rescued a cat that got run over by a train or cat or something and his back legs, tails including half his rectum were gone, but they didn't give up and donation was flooding in, sadly he passed away a couple of days later.

Anyone who reads Chinese, here are the FB links, if you don't, just looking at the pics and the videos would make you go from sad to smile.

Ohhh! I was in Singapore the other week and wondered why so many people were feeding stray cats with proper cat food!

Thought I will ask anyway, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway as he has FIV and also probably wouldn't like the company of another cat. I hope he finds a good home, he deserves it after everything he's been through.

And I am the opposite, I wondered why nobody does it here in the UK all these years ago... then I realised there are so many non killing charities, there is no need. Found a cat? Hand them in! Or just claim them as yours.
-
• #6563
i dont use face book but dont know if you pass the LAP details on they will dont put cats down if they dont get a home, i wish all the best for that cat been through alot. :(

Hand them in, hope nobody claims them then take them home again!
My parents last remaining cat was rescued from the gutter as a kitten, with all sorts of things wrong with him. Took him a while to recover but he's 17/18 now, very slow and thinks he's a human.

The RSPCA won't let you adopt a cat you have found after you have taken it in because they have people playing the system; taking in their own cat for free/cheap medical treatment (claiming it's a stray) and then wanting to 'adopt' it.
-
• #6566
^ I was about to say the same, I think a lot of charities also have the same rule jus in case people want free treatment. What I don't understand is that charities already offer free or very low cost treatments for people in need. And if you can afford it, you should pay.

But he is looking proper handsome now, no? He's changed from 'nobody comes near me' to a month later now a couple of selected humans are allowed to touch his paws and back. It does put a smile on your face, doesn't it?

Unfortunately if you want the cat then the cost of chipping/vaxxing is just something to suck up.
Our vet tried to keep the stray we found, offering us the chance to 'foster' him.
We said 'no-ta', put up a few posters then waited the seven days before we could book his vet care. The desexing was actually free under a gov. scheme to reduce unwanted kittehs.

Yeah it does make me smile, i just wish i could take him on as he looks like he could be very happy in a chilled home,
The LAP people are good and have other foster links all over HK. I love the fact he has been saved and i have no doubt he will win over someone. Again i wish i could have taken him on but hide behind toilet cat has top spot atm. 😸 if u want to give me the email of his carers ill happily try to link things with LAP. -

Bottom left pic pre shite in shoe just to let you know who's boss?

Your foster kid isn't going to be homed properly by end of this month, is he? I will send her a message on FB, but I am sure she alreadys knows about the LAP. If not, I will see what I can do, but like I said, I have no relation to any party involved so I don't want to get overly involved now especially I am 1000s of miles away here in London...

• #6572
Yeah cool I understand, think the one I have now is gonna take a while to socialise so prob longer than a month, I'll pm you my email if u want to pass it on so your not in the middle.
