Nice frame! SS or fixed? What fork are you getting?
-
• #3
Going to try out fixed for the first time, just going to start on a low gearing see how the ride is. I'm thinking an Aventon Ultimate fork at the moment.

Beefy. Should work with the os down tube.

@russmeyer glad to hear some approval, I literally picked this fork because of it's quoted weight at 350g ;) I'm not sure if I'd keep the branding on the fork, and if it's possible to strip it without damaging the carbon

Nice. Ideas for parts yet?

Sram Omnium in black, will upgrade to zen chainring later once I'm happy with my gear ratio. Just running a cheap miche sprocket in the back again to get accustomed to fixed, then looking to upgrade to Dura Ace or EAI.
Deda Superleggero finishing kit, with a Deda Dabar. Fizik R1 Saddle.
Wheels I decided to get archetypes in the end despite the price, because I like the anodised braking surface too much (I'm just going to look after the msw so the coating doesn't wear as quickly). Equally with import taxes I can't afford China carbon just yet. Laced to the Mack Superlights with Sapim CX Rays ;)

Carbolift but £££ and it'll remove the varnish too
-
• #10
Nice. Are they polished?

@matteroftaste and here I was thinking I could just scratch it off carefully.
@danslecarton yep! I think it'll suit the raw frame :)
-
• #12
Yeah there is always that. I'd use a razor blade and take extreme care. Then very fine wet and dry and gloss coat.
-
• #13
I think the fork would have a matt finish, would I still need the wet n' dry and gloss?
I'll probably have a better idea if I wanna keep the decals once I get it too!
-
• #14
Ffs they're hardly visible, leave the decals and save yourself a week of agony.
-
• #15
Ultimately you'll have to wait and see how it's applied to the forks. Looks painted to me, no way of knowing if there's a carbon weave under the paint or not. There's always spray.bike if you just want a matte black finish

Lol, I think @russmeyer has a good point to be honest. I was only just thinking aloud when I mentioned it!
-
• #17
Paint or decal it doesn't really matter. Fine grade wet and dry, tub back until decal disapears, key test of fork, mask bits you don't want paint on, paint. Shouldn't take very long, due to enve refusing to do OEM forks I have to do it all the time....

Got some of the parts today! :)

I've just been on the track for the first time, and I'm starting to understand the mistake I've made by not getting drops :(

Pretty much got all the parts I need to start building now. :)

Does anyone know if this is meant to sit flush against the bars? I've lost the instructions and haven't found the exact same set online. I'm using SRAM Aero 900 levers.

Would love to know how this build is going, love this frame!
Can I ask where you bought the frame did you go direct to BB17 or via some other route???
-
• #24
I actually completed the build a month ago now, but I've been too busy to keep the post updated! (Photos will be uploaded later)
I bought mine from Goldsprint: maybe because of the exchange rates, or just speed of delivery, this isn't a very economical frameset which ever route you decide to take.

Thanks very much for the info.
Hope you are enjoying the bike!
I'm a born and bred commuter. However as I began to enjoy cycling more I rolled into road cycling and I'm now building up this frame to replace a crashed single speed.
I intend to use this bike as a flash, fancy and fair weather commuter bike through London.
I am looking to improve my overall strength on a bike so there is potential to use it for things like Regent's Park morning laps and sprinty midnight rides through Central London while the roads are clearer.
Build Notes : I am building this as a weight weenie despite the steel frame. Any advice
or feedback on the progress of my build will be greatly appreciated :)
