That EDC bike pitch is so cringey.
(To me) literally everything wrong with the bike industry right now. Do we care what lathe you use? lmfao
A lot of it reads like excuses or trying to convince us they put 'work' in.The paint is cool tho, everything else. wew...

Both amazing bikes, but that Rockhopper is superb.

Sweet. I've had mine out today. Amazing brakes, lighter than I thought and the alloy forks aren't really an issue tbh. Bargain!

I care what lathes people use, but only so I can then not listen to them and just blather on about mine. Its's a Hardinge HLV tool room lathe, one of the proper ones made in Essex before they went over to the US. It's got a great system for mounting the chucks, utilizing a taper nose system that twists and locks into place. The main problem with this being that it is very hard, and therefore expenisve to get chucks, or more specifically back plates, for them. Hello? anyone? I've got mills to talk about still.....

Not really, although they tend to be stronger for welding if left unfiled, but this is fillet brazing, which is basically a hot glue gun with metal glue, your parent metal doesn't melt.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I guess welds are so much thinner that any filing would mean a significant reduction in strength?

Not so much that, it is with steel, but ally welds are much bigger. It's more that you have no real idea what is parent material and what is filler, so for all you know you could be taking away the tube. If thats the aesthetic you want, better to try and acheive it through welding technique, or use filler like Boardman, as an example.

Thanks, your Muddy fox was one of the inspirations behind the Rockhopper. Super happy with how it's ended out!

wheres this from?
Are they really stronger? Material loss is going to be minimal, and smooth filing should reduce the number of crack initiation sites.
I quite like the paint and spec, but to my internet-nerd shallow-pocketed mind a >£4K bike is competing with custom bikes that have pretty flawless finishing; Talbolt/Hartley/Feather etc. territory.
