Because the spokes are steel and already silver I didn't have to disassemble the wheels. I used an old oven dish (lasagna size) filled with drain cleaner - the variety consisting of those silver-grey beads - dissolved in luke warm water. Then simply dip a section of the rim for about five minutes, then whipe off the black color with a Brillo pad, then rinse with water (I used the shower head). Repeat untill you've done both wheels. Then work lightly with a scotch brite pad for a semi gloss shine and that's actually all there is to it. I did a couple of handlebars and two DP18 rims in the past so I knew this works.
