Yeah the white decal is a bit OTT.
But the DT's don't seem much better visually. The both brands come on one of the complete bikes from canyon. So I'm still confused.
Can you take the QR out and just replace it with the through axel?
Does it require any other parts? -
• #28
Most disc wheel hubs have removable caps to fit different standards. Make sure you order something compatible and with the right caps to fit your thru axles and the right rear width
-

Canyon website says 12x100mm ta for front wheel, cant find anything on the rear wheel.
You can't just replace the QR with a through axle. Some disc brake wheels/hubs (most?) will have removable end caps that allow you to fit a various axle types. Looking at bike24, it seems the Ksyriums come in different axle configurations, so they might not have said removable end caps.

Ok that's a start thanks!
-
• #31
Ksyriums don't have removable end caps afaik, Ksyrium elites do though.

• #32
Thanks. Well my main decisions are either 105 or Ultegra And the wheel set
-
• #33
Hydro shifters? 105 hydro shifters look a bit dog's dinner
-
• #34
Yeah hydro.
I'd prefer Ultegra and cheaper wheels I think. I could wait for the next gen Ultegra but costs will be higher I think, if only due to the £ -
• #35
The wheel decals are easily removable most of the time. All the otp wheels listed above come with adapters for 12/100 front and 12/142 rear
Compromising on wheels is going to be more noticeable performance wise but have to agree on the hydros. Maybe you can get 105 with the ultegra level shifters?

• #36
Thanks. Appreciate your help people.

• #37
Yeah this is it havevto make compromises as spent a big portion of my budget getting the frameset and colourway I wanted.
The shifters/ brake seem to be the main cost of the groupset.
Plus I'd like the chainset to be Ultegra if I'm getting Ultegra levers... -
• #38
I have Ultegra hydro levers with 105 all else. Ridden the same bike with Ultegra mechs and cranks, couldn't tell a difference (maybe 100 grams lighter?)
-
• #39
The convience of ordering a whole groupset appeals as I'm a novice.
What's the price difference in levers?
The groupset is about £200 difference -
• #40
I guess that unless you go 2nd hand getting the groupset in bulk comes off cheaper and simpler
-
• #41
I've just had a look. Ultegra hydro groupset is 660 quid, 105 is about 200 less. I don't think it's worth getting all piece by piece unless you go for used. Wouldn't get used hydros
-
• #42
Yeah thats what I could find. Gives me about 300 for the wheels and tyres.
-
• #43
If you want it on the road ASAP I'd get the cheapest with the intention of replacing it soon. But if you have time build up funds a bit and you'll be much happier on good tyres and a pair of wheels that does the frame justice

Dt r460 rims, novatec hubs, decent spokes, could easily be built within budget.
-
• #45
This.
And I'll add that instead of paying someone to build, you could take your diy project to the next level, and use the money for the necessary tools and Roger Mussons book/pdf, and learn to build them yourself. I did that a year ago, and though it was a little harder than I imagined, it was far from impossible, and you'll be able to build and true your own wheels in the future. I've gone from having no clue to a stable of three bikes with home build wheels (one pair with the excellent r460 rims mentioned above) in a year with that book, it's highly recommendable.

Hmm interesting, how much am I looking at for the wheel tools?
I was starting to think I'd go with the hope twentyfive's. -
• #47
Spoke wrench, €8 and dish stick, €31 are the essentials imo, but a nipple driver, €20 is very handy too. Prices in euros are Park Tool stuff from bike24. You can turn a frame upside down and strap a ruler acros the fork legs and stays and use it as a truing stand if you don't want to invest in a dedicated one - they are a little expensive. I got a Park Tool tension meter for my birthday and its nice for getting the tension even, but i'd say you could build without one.
I dont know how the tool costs compare to the labour prices where you live, but give a man a fish or a fishing rod etc etc if that makes sense.

After some consideration think I'll go with the OTP wheels.
Thinking the Hope RS4, Evans have the black hubs the cheapest.
But should I go more bling!? -
• #49
Found some very practical Roval's which might be an option.
Axis hubs...seem basic but good enough to get me going!? -
• #50
Nah, Hopes are decent wheels; go with them if that's a choice. The straight pull spoked ones might be a bit lighter, plus the spokes might be stronger. Go for 6 bolt disc aswell if you care about weight savings!
Replacing a spoke will be far easier on the other options, they're not that wide and the tyres they come with are considered to be shit, so yeah kinda.
