  • Yes, Mirabelle plums! Just looked up a chutney recipe, thanks.

  • Blackberries are ripening early! Got a 2l jar of blackberry gin on the go over the weekend, spare berries went into blackberry and apple crumble.

    This and jam was was this evenings entertainment, delicious!

  • Loads of blackberries in burgess park

  • Found a tree full of Mirabelle plums collected a bag full and made a spiced plum compote to go on my breakfast.
    Blackberry time too!

  • Our evening dog walk takes in the plum run. We have to speed up a bit for about 100 metres and tighten the dog lead to stop the stretchy fucker from hoovering up any plums on the ground. He always enjoys blackberries, plums and then sweet chestnuts and acorns a little later in the year. It's like he's never fed.

  • Found a new patch of sloe trees for later in the year. Yum.

  • Sweet chestnuts. Mmmm. Have several HUGE trees near us and no-one touches them. Bags-full last year and this season looks really promising. Keep for a good three months frozen and still lovely.

  • Blackberries in the rain. Photo is as good as I could get in this dullness on my phone.

  • Actually took notice on my walk into work today through the Surrey Canal and Burgess Park. Spotted crab apples, walnuts, sweet chestnuts, pears, mulberries and Rowan berries. Couldn't find the damson I'd been told about though.

  • I needs me some learnings. Have been recently been eating blackberries and wild garlic earlier in the year.

    We have tons of fungi but not sure what's what.

    Yesterday I noticed these, am assuming they are oysters that have gone past their best. Wife told me she had seen puffballs but did not think they were edible.

  • Anyone know what any of these are, and can any of them be eaten, cordialised, etc?

  • This from plums on the A1000 in E Finchley, blackberries from the bushes on the fences of the N Line also in Efinchley, pears (which I diced and caramelised) from my neighbours tree. Crumble from organic ingredients bought at Tony's Deli.... also... yes in Efinchley.

  • Is the 3rd photo Wayfaring tree + berry?

  • An essential rule of thumb is 'don't know, don't eat'. Also, white berries of any kind are always avoided. The yellowish berries look almost like rowan but the leaves are all wrong - therefore don't eat. There are imports from China & India during the Victorian era that look similar to our own berries but will merrily dissolve your kidneys. Always play safe.

  • Does the second bush have long thorns?
    They may be the fruit of a firethorn variant.
    Woodpigeons will gorge on the red-fruited variety.

  • No thorns on the bush I don't think. The third one is the one I thought looked most likely to be edible - might even be a redcurrants? But yeah dont know dont eat sounds sensible. Sadly I don't know anything apart from the mega obvious ones.

  • Crab apple jelly in progress with fruit of the forest...well Cherry Tree Woods in East Finchley.....

  • Leaves don't look like redcurrants, plus they are usually cropping in June.
