Didn't read the one where tyre pressure made far more difference?
-
• #1178
Yep, but my pressures are dialled already.
The difference between a Thomson Elite Inline and a Canyon VCLS split deflection thing is equivalent to a 25psi drop in pressure. Whilst I've got a Masterpiece rn and won't be putting a Canyon post on there, even half of that is worth the expense.

I popped in alpkit store today in Hathersage. Their gravel bikes look really nice. Some good deals on ti frame in store but not giant size. They offer day or weekend test rides which I may take them up on soon

I've asked in the 650b thread, but had no response.....has anyone got any real world experience of the Mason hunt 650b adventure Wheelset?
Is there anything else that I can get with the shitty halfords cycle2work voucher that has 12mm front and back hubs and as good weight wise that I'm missing? -
• #1183
I think I just read somewhere that @motoko has those ^ wheels..?
Personally I can only vouch for their customer service (on different wheels) - which included rebuilding a wheel with a new rim for me, free of charge, even though I'd only acquired it second hand and both owners had done thousands of miles on it.

Yep. Got a pair of these with g-one tyres setup tubeless by hunt.
Very happy with them so far. Only thing worth doing is checking the spoke tensions. I didn't have any issues with mine but have heard others having some low tensions.

spiffy bike

Thanks guys, I was getting that feeling that they are good.....there aren't many reviews though. I'm gonna do the 650b thing on my sequoia

Or buy rims from lightbicycle and build your own wheels.
-
• #1188
That would probably be better, but this way I get them without spending any of my meagre salary!...well, I do, but I don't notice it!
-
• #1189
They've got good return policy. So if you're not happy can simply send back. 50 days or something.
-
• #1190
Yeah, I noticed that...its 60 I think. Not that I could ever be arsed to follow that up! Ha!
Sigma sports are the retailers that will take the voucher too...so they're decent, right?
I'm pretty well versed in older roadie stuff, but there are so many new 'fucking standards' now, I gets confuzzled easy, like. -

Saw this whyte glencoe in an lbs this afternoon. Opinions please? I didn't really have time to look at it properly as I was supervising a 4 year who was more interested in pink balance bikes! Would be used for road/off road/#allthesurfaces

I'd be interested to heat thoughts on this too. Looks well equipped! What would be good alternatives?

Where is this?
-
• #1194
@BareNecessities UK Cycles. Only had them in a few days ago. £1300. Very nice in the flesh.

£200 cheaper https://www.raleigh.co.uk/mustang-elite-21049
Though it does have a bit of a marmite effect on the look, I quite like it personally.

What about specialized own 650b?
-
• #1198
They are heavy Ed, and I've also had to have the front wheel replaced under warranty already.....they are cup and cone, and while I know that that is fine, they are not very good on this. I want sealed cartridge and lighter.....basically, I think that a very good steel bike is being held back by shit wheels......

Whyte are a pretty good brand to buy into. Well made and easy to get in contact with.
The new glencoe is essentially their older fisburn/gisburn but with some road plus tyres thrown on. Whyte borrow a lot from their MTBs with the roadie stuff and the frames and very long for the size with stubby stems and 50cm drops.
