  • Yep pizza rack,

The case of beer was free!

  • if you mean the yellow lafraise, it's 650b.

  • Apparently they're meant to

  • So they're charging over £4k for the bike and CBA to file the fillets smooth?

  • those are some difficult words, oxy-acetylene brazing.

  • Soma porteur with the sides cut off. And 35c panaracer pasela tg's.
I mounted the rack to the rear fork eyelets with a couple of spacers. Way better than axel mount. I'll take a photo later.

  • Honestly I don't mind. Framebuilding is a hard job if someone can make good money out of it, why not? No one here will buy it of course but who are we to decide it's worth? I honestly think most UK framebuilders should charge more.

  • The fillets are actually stronger (considerably stronger) if left like that.

"CBA" is probably misguided. You'd be looking at 2 days to file back a frame, the cost of which (and your overheads for those days) you'd have to add to the bike price, of course.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one, not my kind of bike. I can see where the £4k goes for sure though!

What do y'all think so Sacha's Urban Racer?

  • And remember its half price of the cheapest Ford KA you can buy new.

  • Well it's £2707 at today's exchange rate so it's certainly a better deal...!

I like the bike. It's cool. Just IMO very expensive when you compare it to what else you can get from very very experienced framebuilding houses. Speedvagen being an example of this.

  • Seen the compared specs on the speedvagen for £3k to this for £4K?

  • I'm looking for a functional winterbike.

    • Singlespeed with the option for fixed or gears if need arises
    • hydraulic disc brakes
    • guards
    • front rack/basket
    • steel
    • comfy tyres

any otp suggestions that don't break the bank? (sub 1k)

  • I know. They're not comparable. As I said earlier up thread, I like the build. It looks like a fun bike - I just think the concept in itself is quite strange and very expensive for what it is.

  • That Pinnacle Dolomite SS? Fixed might be tricky though. Or the Grinduro Charge Plug.

    Oh, steel.

  • I can understand why someone might spunk four or five grand (edit: or ten) on a really nicely finished custom bike. To me that's the cycling equivalent of a high end watch. I'd never buy one, but if someone else has the money I'm happy to appreciate the craftsmanship from afar. Buying a super expensive bike with ugly welds and shit paint because it's functional just seems like a really odd choice. It's hard to see what it does that couldn't be achieved with a 90's MTB and £150 of braze-ons. Still, I'm not going to hate anyone over it. If they're earning money doing something they love then they're winning.

  • Omnium cxc might fit the bill, would need other fork if you want to mid-fork mounts for a rack.

  • I like that one, though I'm not sure about the geometry. Would prefer something compact.

  • ugly welds and shit paint

    subjective territory

  • I was insanely sceptical about the Urban Racer until Sacha brought one in. 100% the best, funnest bike I have ever ridden. I love it. I desperately want one.

  • Have only just seen that Rowan F+F's start at £3000. Lol.

  • I'd honestly get this:

    A whole bike for £1700: https://www.svencycles.com/products/roadster-8-speed/?departmentID=39&page=1&q=

But thats not the point. The only people who can decide its worth are the makers and the buyers. Internet nerds with shallow wallets are irrelevant.

  • Nothing about being an internet nerd. It's about using your brain when buying a custom bike. And the Rowan isn't even custom. All bias aside, look at Isen's. Built in batches, like the Rowan, by people who've got a boat load of experience and the price of a frame is very very reasonable.

  • The reason you know isen is because you are an internet nerd.
