  • nice work

  • Just found out about Kochi Architects. Awesome.
Like living inside a permanent Gordon Matta-Clarke project.

  • Looks decent. On a non second hand Mac related note I'd love to hear more about this once sold, I'd love a project like this.

  • That would last maybe 2 days around here; people just destroy shit that seems even halfway vulnerable, and that ^ certainly qualifies.

  • Very nice idea executed really nicely but what @withered_preacher said in London it would last 2 weeks max. Target to throw shit at.

  • When I was a student the campus was open, no fences. We built a little hut/shelter as part of a workshop - mud bricks, willow frame quarter dome roof with more mud slung at it. We watched from a studio window with some trepidation as local kids discovered it one weekend, one jumped up to grab the roof to see if it would hold weight... it bounced but was clearly fairly fragile. They settled in to have a smoke. They never damaged it in years. (These days the campus is most definitely fenced in, with "please have your ID visible" notices, and the shelter was eventually demolished anyway).

  • So London is much more civilized than Winnipeg, by that measurement anyway.
    This is not new news.

  • Open house in a couple of weeks, i usually forget about it until the week of than spend evening before trying to figure out what I want to see.
Going to buy the book early this year (like today) and give myself a bit of time to figure stuff out..
Anyone else excited, have specific buildings they want to see? Bear in mind I generally never pre book and try to avoid queues at all costs..

  • I went to see Spring Lane last year and was sorely disappointed. It seems that a project I thought was very theoretically sound just didn't work in practise; the occupants have resorted to adding 'pods' to provide private amenity space, rather than engaging as a community as the architects envisaged.

Also had a look around Tuckey's Yard House which I do recommend if it's open again, and also O'Donnell + Tuomey's Saw Swee Hock building. Again recommended.

Haven't looked at this years yet, though I am on the ballot for the BT Tower.

  • One strictly for the sustainable / straw bale architecture nerds here:

  • We are aplying for the Europa Nostra prize for building conservation.
They require quite a lengthy description which has put me out of my depht a bit as it is in english and me composing anything longer that the average forum post has proven rather cumbersome. I'm danish and never have had a change to develop any kind of techical language in english.

This is the building we restored:

  • Beautiful!
(Ask forum for any bits of text you're not sure about?)

  • Ask forum for any bits of text you're not sure about?

I thought about it and probably will even though it will likely be most of it... (maximum about 6150 words covering a few different sections)

  • Fwiw until I read somewhere you were danish I assumed you were english, so your language here hasn't given you away

I know business / technical english is on a different level though. Can't you get someone senior to review it once you've written a draft?

    thanks

This is a given, but senior does not equal better at english here. :)

  • If it's for your agency and awards or monies involved, can't you get a technical copywriter in for a day?

  • I'll look into that, thanks.
For now, I'll see how far I can drive it myself.

  • Brief description max 150 words. just because it might be of interest:)
Dehn’s Palace is built in the 1750ies and is a prime example of Danish baroque and rococo architecture. The late classicist interiors date back to a conversion in the 1820ies and are some of Denmarks finest examples of empire style.

The entire roof construction collapsed and several storeys were destroyed in a fire and subsequent extinguishing in 2010. The interiors stood drenched in water for several days and were heavily damaged.

The building has been restored with all the period correct materials and techniques. The aim was to conserve the rich cultural heritage of the building as well as to make it genuinely usable for the many employers who have their daily routines in the building. The gentle transformation works inscribes itself in a tradition of respectful modernizations and adds a beautiful and functional chapter to the history of the palace.

Not edited to anyone's standards except my own over breakfast.

  • Haha Thanks a lot. You spotted some important ones there!

  • Cheers I'm a native speaker, but Canadian, so...
