DMR threaded clamp and some spacers on my touring bike

Yeah going to eventually but I only have short zip ties at the mo and can't justify a whole packet.....
:)

That looks neater...

Finally have had time to fit the Radials - I don't have enough clearance, f&r!
I guess there is nothing that I can do to resolve this?
-
• #3006
Gave up on my Radials, le sigh
-
• #3007
Why's that? I haven't tried to fit mine yet, but they seem ok.
-
• #3008
SBC are fitting mine. If they can't manage, no-one can.
-
• #3009
Didn't arrive?

i consider myself a mudguard noob and managed to fit 'em. Aside from the stays being quite tough to trim, they were ok.

Shoo goo is your friend here. Used it on a similar issue on mine.
It sticks the guard to the frame, yet remives without marking.

Fitted my Radials the other day; bit of a faff as I had to make some "extenders" for the bridges as the mounting holes in the frame and fork were too far away. Other than that, they seem solid, if a little short (and narrow). Could do with some mudflaps; any suggestions other than a bit of innertube?

Cheap enough that failure is an option.
-
• #3014
Brilliant, that looks like it'll do the job.

Is there anything that I can do about the lack of clearance?
Could I try and cut part of the plastic out to raise them up?
Anyone tried anything like that?
-

Which guards are they? The clip on ones? Mudguards rarely seem to fit without any modifications. I had to drill the bridge off mine and flip it round, along with drilling a new hole in the rear guard.
-
• #3017
Yes the clip on ones. Do you have any pictures of what you have done?
-
• #3018
Mine are the alloy ones, up there^
Wouldn't be averse to cutting parts to make them fit though.

Something like DPM works well, just the right amount of stiffness and flexibility.

I want to be prepared and get proper guards for my M600 for when the weather starts to turn. Really enjoy commuting on it and want to make an effort to keep doing it when it rains.
So do I get 60mm GB's and rattlecan them matte black or a pair of Bluemels?

The GBs are of course tougher and the Bluemels are of course safer.
Your choice. -
• #3022
Are GB really less safe though? I thought metal guards were stiff enough that they wouldn't collapse if a stick got caught between tyre and guard. Bluemels will be a lot cheaper, mind.

I think that it's more about the breakaway connectors on the SKS guards. Could be misinterpreting that though.
-
• #3024
AIUI the breakaway connectors are needed because plastic mudguards aren't stiff enough to prevent buckling, so if a stick locks in there the whole mudguard can crumple up under the fork crown; metal guards OTOH should be stiff enough that they won't buckle, so don't need the safety releases.

Was talking mostly about the breakaways, though I would think the GBs would bend enough to catch the wheel, which is all that's needed.
I'd replace the proprietary dial with a normal zip-tie myself, I reckon it would look smarter.
