I heard people keep getting stuck in stale mates.
-

Yeah i can see that happening, towards the end of my game last night my team was getting hammered and losing all the territory. Full capitulation

Hello,
It looks like XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is not currently available for MAc on Steam.
If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

Ouch. Refund?
I am having some great funs with X-Com 2 at the moment. It's like X-Com only more varied. I like it.

well the latest is that firaxis is doing a port "sometime in the coming months" - i get that ports for mac often happen long after an initial release, but but dont advertise it on your app with a little fuckin' mac icon because folk are liable to think lJFLASJFLASDJFDFRAAAAAAAR!!!!
anyway, glad you're enjoying it - it's a fantastic game.

Enough with steam.
Now using Gog.com
Valve seem to have sold out according to Writing on Games

^ I see his point about Valve not caring because of the lack of competition. I cant decide if he is bitter about not being invited to give his opinon though and seems abit ranty about it! Never used gog before, might give it a crack for my next purchase.

woke up this morning and my XCOM DLC had downloaded over night. which was a pleasant surprise. yet to take it for a spin, presuming it works.

War of the Chosen? Mine was crashing all over the place. Bit of googling suggests it's best to remove any of the workshop mods rather than just disabling them. YMMV
-
• #17786
i've yet to fire it up, tho none the mods (long war etc) were ever available for mac so that should hopefully not be much of an issue.

• #17787
Do you do all your gaming in macOS? Don't bother with Bootcamp?
-
• #17788
fuck that noise. there's enough decent games on macOS not to bother, and i'm not that fussed about playing ALL THE GAMES.
-
• #17789
Tempting but PvP stuff is pretty much a no-go for me with the laptop. Same as it ever was.
-
• #17790
Shithot, I wanted to do the same but then DayZ... still have the Metro series to work through (there was a bug in macOS which killed one early on for me), hopefully my new eGPU will work like a dream in macOS 10.13

Ordinarily i'd say you'd be bonkers to hand over 35 quid for DLC, but WotC is an astoundingly good game. here's a 15 minute review that explains why.
-
• #17792
^ Not watched, but bought WotC and agree it's well worth the 30 quid DLC

it's a lot fucking harder than vanilla xcom2. i nearly ragequit last night when my ranger missed a 95% shot and then got her face melted off at point blank range by the same space bastard she failed to shank. the subsequent hulk-out of her newly widowed trench-hubby meant he machine gunned half the field into oblivion in one round without even being asked to do so.
swings and roundabouts.

Yeah, I've decided to go into it playing Ironman so that I don't cheat and reload all the time.
Got to get myself out of the habit of exploring with the last move of a turn. Too often sneak forward one more square and reveal a bunch of enemies just as I'm out of moves. Revealed a handful of stun lancers and could only watch as half my squad were knocked out cold. Then a Chosen turned up with some mechs and finished off the rest of the squad. Infuriating. Really enjoying it. -

those "rescue 6 civvies" gigs are a fucking ballache - the fact that they get merked off screen about 400 tiles away and there's nothing you can do about it is more stressful than watching your squad kark it.
it's also worth playing if you happen to be a ST:TNG fan.

Well that's coincidental - I just played LA Noire over the last week on the 360 for the first time. Really enjoyed it - maybe a bit samey with the 'is this liar lying' thing, but good story and a lot of fun. Would like a sequel.

For me the issue was "How do we make this video game character seem like they're lying, without making it too obvious...?", which didn't go very well.
It's an awesome game though, great visuals and soundtrack. Definitely underrated in my opinion.
Also, not sure if you're aware (or interested, for that matter), but there's a guy called Mark Brown who has some great discussions on video games (mainly focussed on design & mechanics) who's put up a video on what makes a great detective game. May be of interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwV_mA2cv_0

Mark Brown is great. I follow a few interesting channels. I like Writing on Games especially his vids on gaming and mental health Fork is good for similar reasons.

Will check those out!
In return I present the following:
Extra Credits, nicely animated videos discussing all aspects of the video game lifecycle, largely focussed on design and mechanics:

AI & Games, really nice Scottish chap who's a university lecturer in game design specialising in AI and Procedural Content Generation. Videos are split between examining AI, game development tutorials and generic Let's Play type videos:
Just picked up Foxhole EA last night, enjoyed the couple of hours i've put into it so far

It gets pretty intense when tank shells are flying around the place, interesting top down gameplay too
