Riding each other to the limit until the last kms and then smashing each other with what they've got left and trying to gain 10s of seconds is the common thing now. Don't think any long range mountain attacks have worked in recent memory?
Of course doesn't stop teams smelling weakness and piling on pressure when certain GC contenders are not having a good day.
Consequence of clean(er) riding no ? More riders staying together on the final climb rather than the best responders breathing through their ears and riding away from everyone else in the EPO years ?
I do also wonder if the reason Grand Tour's are a bit stale is a dearth of talent. To win on GC you've got to be able to climb and TT, and the majority of GC riders are shit testers.
Will be interesting to see the next GT where Froome and Dumoulin ride together. Can Dumoulin hang on to the Sky train and beat Froome in the TTs ? I'd imagine Sky would probably ride a more punchy race rather than metronome up the mountains
