  • Just bending metal fenders to fit the diameter will put stresses on them that will make them liable to crack, with gilles b and the like you can bend the section wider, which will reduce the diameter (wheel size) but I'm not sure if that would work as well with aluminium like the PDW.

  • Yeah, I'd rather not go for plastic if avoidable though.

  • Ed's old one? Looks good.

  • Yeah. After three more owners and apparently no extra miles. Proper bargain as well.

  • Love this bike

  • Never run guard, I had 38mm which is the biggest I can fit, so a 32mm will fit with mudguard, having said that, a 30mm 700c with mudguard also fit.

  • It is an awesome bike, kinda sad to see it go, but I wanted much bigger clearance (like 48mm).

  • Cheers for the info. Struggling to find specific guards for the tyre size sadly...

    It is awesome for sure, even just for the couple of days I've had it I have slightly grown attached to it.

  • Kojak folding 35mm 650b and 700c x 35mm mudguard would work (bontrager NCS is a good choice), cannot guarantee this thought.

  • It was great fun climbing on dirt road with ease and at 30psi, the gearing of 11-32 and 52/36 was quite high thought.

  • I run 26" x 50mm GBs on my girlfriend's bike which I think is about 650 x 32 (those cheap Schwalbe tyres) fit is spot on though I did have to trim them at the stays .

  • GOOD TO KNOW! THANKS

  • I'm struggling to find some nice light rims to lace up to some Hope hubs for a commuter I'm building. When I had finally decided on Hope Tech XC rims the supplier ran out of stock and CRC only have one rim left in stock and no ETA on next shipment. Is there anything similar in terms of width and weight? I'm in Aus and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot available here. Suggestions?

  • Echo-ing @user67815 anyone got any ideas for a set of 24h 650b rims for road-y/cx-y/gravel-y use? i.e. xc rims.

    Velocity do the Blunt SS which looks great but not available in 24h drilling unless buying a crate of 50+

  • Has anyone got an opinion on the 650b mason X hunt wheels? I can get a set through the cycle 2 work scheme and there doesn't seem to be anything as good, that would suit my 12mm bolt through needs for the price (£359)

    They seem light at 1500 odd grams, come with the axles I need plus valves and spare spokes and stuff....they also offer what seems like a very good warranty and back-up.......almost too good to be true!

    These ones

  • Velocity availability is annoying. I've been looking for A23 in 650b and the only way to get them is through BLB and they charge a 55 quid special ordering fee...

  • Have to mentioned this to velocity? Brick lane bikes are horrible dealers, it's a shame that they have some good American brands under them.

  • what could they do? suppose BLB are allowed to charge exorbitant shipping fees...

    especially if they can put a BLB logo on a £3 generic taiwanese stem and it now costs £30.

  • Hi, looking for some commuter recommendations for my Genesis Longitude 27.5 frame. Currently got the tyres it came with but they are wearing thin. I enjoyed the tyres and might replace them with the same 2.8 Trailblazers but wondering if they might not really be the most durable for daily commuting.
    What's the best wide commuter tyre? I'm looking at;

    Super Moto X 2.35
    G-one 2.4
    Knard 41mm (announced but like rocking horse shit)

    Any other recommendations at this size?

  • { late to the party }

    This Ribble looks ace.

    I'm sure you'll never have a problem running road pedals, but if you do ever run wider or flat pedals be careful of pedal strike. Your bb will have dropped a bit with the conversion.

    I ran double sided (atacs on side, flats on the other) pedals. They were a bit wide and I ended up in a ditch, at midnight, miles from anywhere, with a busted kneecap and bent rear wheel :-0 650b conversions are still ace, once the build problems are sorted they make amazingly practical bikes.

    my friend is considering going 650b on her CdF, mainly because it's a little bike and 32c+ tyres look ridiculous and increase the standover height too much...

    I was going to help her with it, but what are the things to look out for?

  • Huh -- I didn't know about the £55 special order fee. Surely you could go direct from the US for cheaper?

  • Cdf is a disc brake bike no? Should be pretty plain sailing.

    With rim brakes that extra drop can involve some compromises.

    Fork/chainstay clearance (width) might limit your tyre width. I just get away with 35mm kojaks on a tight clearance 80s road frame. I also had to cut my alu guards and add guard fittings (clamps round seatstays and fork blades, because as a race frame it didn't have any eyelets) and other things.

  • Lovely 650B Pacer.
