Things to do in Paris when you're middle aged

  • I'm taking Mrs Hefty to Paris next week for 3 days. We're staying north of the river, about halfway between the Louvre and Montmartre. ish.

The bike hire scheme looks easy enough to work out.

But where should we ride to?

    What should we eat/see/do?

If you've been, what was the best thing you did?

  • The Petite Ceinture is super on a sunny sunday morning, and comes with a small frission.
    Les Catacombes - totally legit.
Berthillon ice cream on ile de saint louis.
There are lots of "standard" things to see. You should probably go to see Musee Rodin, Sainte Chapelle if you've never seen them before.
Cycling along the banks of the river is probably nice.
If you want to see one or more unfriendly cats, Cimetière de Montmartre is the place. Or cat graveyard is in Cimetière des Chiens (?) which is in Clichy to the north west (though I thought they were going to close it).
Try to avoid the apple turnovers. They are not like proper english apple turnovers, being full of mush (like baby food) rather than discrete pieces of apple, and they are the same everywhere, even in super "artisanale" bakerys.
The road surface is generally better than London, though they don't have the bus lanes to protect you from the cars.

  • Don't be tempted to cycle into the middle of the Bois de Boulogne.

  • I did that once.

  • But do eat here, it's nice.

  • This topic will be soon overflowed.

    • Try a quick stop at Rue Crémieux (near Boulevard Beaumarchais / Opera)
Its a former whorehouses' street. That's the reason why they're all painted differently (in order helping 'customers' find their way...)
    • Maybe you should go to Rue de L'échaudé (Latin Quarter). Its a street where lampshades are hooked up. I'm not sure if this is any permanent though.

Ride around finding Invaders Invasions. There's a map, helps.

  • P.s. The best best thing I did was watch a bike race. And drink in some nice cafes & bars.

  • My favourite restaurant is called 'Les Petit Marche' just off the north entrance to Place des Vosges (which is also very nice- the oldest planned square in Paris). Traditional french food with a light asian twist. Can get very busy but will generally be alright for a table for two. Recommend the salmon/mango/avocado cake thing for starter and the duck/banana or tuna/sesame thing (if you like raw fish) for main.

  • Thanks all.

    Early Eurostar on Friday.

  • So, what did you end up doing?

  • I've been mainly taking in the beautiful sights of the city of lights:
