  • They had 8 years to figure out how to put on disc brakes. I've seen Bromptons with discs that don't effect the fold. An ebike will burn through caliper pads

  • That was sort of my point. The finished e-brompton doesn't seem that much better than the Brompton with a chinese battery and hub attached that I test rode.

  • I'm sure 3 speed is good but I know people who ride those who say the small gear is too small and the big gear is too big......

not sure if its still the case but you can request narrow or wide range 3 speed hubs. Narrow range makes sense for round London. Although I'm more of a fan of 2 speed.

You can in theory change the bars on an H-type but the angles are different and the stems go through extensive testing with a particular bar so are better suited to the original bar.

FWIW I have a S type but got tired of the racing position. Couldn't find risers that I liked that fit so fit a bar riser thing:

Which works fine and still folds ok, didn't even have to change the cables.

Also FWIW still on the Bromton Kevlar tyres. Hundreds of miles. No punctures.

  • That is the stem adaptor I have been using for a while. It is branded Acor and are available on ebay for £7. There are pictures back in the thread.

I now have the new M-bar, was going to use that without the adaptor to see how that feels.

I wish I knew this at the time. I have a wide range hub. Keep meaning to get some SRAM sprockets and take a dremel to them.

  • I think the internals are swappable. So buy a SA hub on ebay and switch them over (not a terribly hard job). I believe the standard ones they've made for years are narrow range (possibly wrong though).

  • Can see that going horribly wrong!

  • Got some major creaking going on. Where should I be looking?

  • GT85 on both hinge, and check rear triangle for play.

  • GT85 rather than anything more heavy duty?

  • Brompton x Barbour

Hate to say this, but I saw one of these in the flesh the other day.... they are very nice.

Also surprised how much better finished it was compared to my dad's older model Brompton. It's almost looks like something worth the fortune they cost new.

  • Saw one just now. Its very very nice.

  • Cheap 2015 bags in the clearance shop.

Went for a 2015 S bag myself, prepared to be told I made a mistake.

  • S bags are great no mistake to be made there.

  • I bet he wasn't prepared to be told that.

  • Y u no yellow game bag?

Tbh pretty tempted myself, but I fear my dandy game isn't strong enough to rock it.

  • Just seen the Barbour Brompton in the flesh - not what I was planning on getting but it does look very nice. Any reason not to?

  • Cannot think of a reason not to.
For those who don't know, the larger C-bag will work with S bars if you take a hacksaw to the plastic handle so that it doesn't foul the cables. I do not mourn the loss of my handle and am happy to have a larger bag in order to push the luggage block above and beyond it's prescribed limits.

  • I literally saw that now. How many speed is it? If it's 3 go for it.

  • I might get one, so there's one reason

Sorry if this is old news.

  • Is it a fake ti Brompton? he says he's got a carbon one too in the comments. I wanna see that

  • Technically I guess yes. He has commissioned or made himself a main frame out of titanium. At least that's how I understand it. Carbon would be interesting as you say.
Does anybody know why Brompton don't make a full titanium frame?
