would these be ok with a disc hub?

For sure, you'll have an obsolete brake track but I wouldn't care

Cool. thx I might give it a go!
I like the idea of an anondised vs polished look anyways...
edit: tho navigating the German site is proving to be tricky and their English conversion is making my computer explode

The kinlin approved rim, is there any reason why it wouldn't work with an so dynamo (symmetry/fishing/someothernweird thing I don't understand)?

Only available from the US
Edit: good time to say 'fuck brexit'If we are ever going to get free trade with the US, it's only going to be outside the EU. I have no confidence that either the US or UK governments are likely to be in favour of free trade any time soon, but I'm absolutely certain that the EU has opposition to free trade as a founding principle.

I have a pair of DT Swiss 240s hubs (28/28) and a pair of Hope Pro III Mono hubs (24/28). I'd like to build one pair onto alu clincher rims (probably Kinlin XR22t) and one pair onto carbon tubs. This will be for road racing / training. The hopes are brand new, the DT Swiss are used but with new bearings. Both are 10 speed. Weight difference between the two is about 61g per wheelset. Which ones should be crabon, which should be training wheels?

DT -> Alu (28 3x)
Hope -> Deep Crabon (24 radial / 28 3x)

So is Roger Musson correct that the Shimano method of lacing disc brake wheels is unnecessary?
-
• #6469
What is necessary or what is better? AFAIK 'pushing' spokes elbows out and 'pulling' spokes in, crossed. Both sides of the wheel

About to build up a set of Kinlin XR22T on DT swiss 240 hubs with CX-sprint spokes on the rear and CX-ray on the front.
What should I be using to lubricate my nipples and spoke threads? Boiled Linseed, Wheelsmith Spokeprep, wet chain lub?
I'll be using the alu polyax nipples with the locking ones on the rear NDS.

I use Mobil 1. Works for me, and I've got piles of it lying around anyway. Any decent lubricant should be fine IME.

Chain lube should be fine.

Is it necessary to attend a course before attempting a self-build? ie are they gonna be able to show me some tricks and tips to stop the wheels falling apart, or is good old common sense and Youtube ok?
-
• #6475
I'd say so. I built my first few wheels this way. This is pre-Youtube though so it was Gerd Schraner book only.
I worked in bike shops for a few years so I've done a 'course' it wasn't great though. Just some practice really and going over what I'd picked up.
Its almost all about practice
EDIT: Not Jobst Brandt book, oops. Not got that one.
Silver rims that are 65ob?
So far only come across Halo Vapour and Velo Orange (£££!) -- anything else out there?
