  • Crowdfunding seems a bit bonkers

  • why do team sky have timing chips (?) here, whereas the other teams appear to not? Do certain riders get timing chips depending on the day?

  • Can see timing chips on other bikes but they're in the left hand side of fork rather than right.

  • James Murdoch insists they are fitted on the right, to reflect his political views.

  • It's never worked in various attempts in pro-cycling previously. That's not to say it can't work, but what can you give people as an incentive other than some vague feeling of wellbeing that you are keeping a sinking ship afloat?

  • If anybody can make crowdfunding a team work, perhaps it's someone slightly offbeat like Vaughters.

    Just listened to him on the Cycling Podcast and he seems to have lots of options. John Kerry is working as a full time fundraiser.

    I think loads of other teams have been in this position (or worse) and pulled it out of the fire. The difference here is that Vaughters has been very open and honest.

  • anyone got a good live stream?
    tiz appears to be failing today...

  • Ha!

  • Cavendish confirmed to be starting the Tour of Britain on Sunday.

    Is there a ToB thread for the 2017 edition?

    Edit: yes, it's here;

  • Sky confirm the signing of Chris Lawless.

    That's four decent neo-pros for next season, plus Doull, Dibben and @taogeogheganhart. Which is quite an array of talented young riders.

  • Do we have a 2018 Tour De France thread yet ?

    Was staying in Bourg d'Oisans last week and was told by locals that there will be a Time Trial up Alpe d'Huez next year.

  • Interesting article by Jeremy Whittle on why we should give a damn about Cannondale-Drapac's demise;

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/why-cannondale-drapacs-survival-matters/

  • Team Sunweb figures the TT course at the World Championships would justify a bike change for Tom Dumoulin at the bottom of the steep Fløyen climb to the finish (3.4 km @ 9.1 % avg.), wonder if we'll see more riders switch to a 1kg lighter bike with smaller gears.

  • Can't be impossible to build a 6.8kg WT TT bike. Bike changes suck.

  • I can't wait for one of these unnecessary changes to go tits up and cost someone an overall...

  • apparently they've done the math, although it is indeed super tricky. Then again, doing this on a TT bike...

  • I don't really care if it's faster, I find bike swaps that aren't legit mechanicals to be against the spirit of the race. Pick your machine, ride it. If you picked the wrong machine, tough shit.
    Anyone who does a bike swap should be made to hand over their other bike to a team with a sponsor... :)
