Two gentlemen tried to break into our office bike room last night in Whitechapel. They broke down an exterior door and damaged the (more substantial) door leading to the bike store. Nothing taken, fortunately.

You in the Whitechapel Building??

Might be, who's asking?

There's a couple of us on here from Perkins Will (3rd floor).
Colleagues trying to sort out a cycle group for the building cos of all the issues so far... attempted break ins, hiding the towels, moving our bikes/locks, random workmen in the cycle store.. and even walking into the ladies changing rooms etc.
It's all just a bit shoddy at the moment -

We're (GDS) on the 6th and 7th. We have an active cycle campaign group and I believe they're working with others in the building but if they're not let me know and I'll get the right people talking to each other.
Grind is so shit.
Do you get any grief from security being officious? Tried to carry an open drink through the lobby yet?
-
• #13433
I'll message my colleague and see whether he's contacted you guys.
Man, we were the second tenants... it's been an absolute fight to get it to how it is now.HOW DARE YOU CARRY AN OPEN DRINK YOU COULD STAIN THE FLOOR. It's their little Kingdom isn't it.
Positive note - The Pret staff by the park are proper nice, and we have Nude, Black Sheep and the Aussie place opposite nearby.
The Still & Stars Pub is also good for an outside pint on a Friday. -

We should start a tenant's support group. Sit in a big circle and confess all the things we've been shouted at about.
We've managed to instigate a fob sharing system for access to the bike store, going from 55 allocated spaces to almost 100 fobs. We're having to monitor usage to prove that granting 100 people access to the bike storage doesn't mean there'll be 100 bikes in there.
Also those drying cupboards. My god, the smell. They're like an incubator for alien life.
A large Black Sheep filter is enough to keep me going for half a week.

Those drying cupboards aren't connected to anything apparently? The vent is purely aesthetic...
Our old office didn't have any facilities though so its a step up still for us... but i'm horrified by the amount of freewheel SS down there without rear brakes. I've pleaded with a few but falls on deaf ears -

Stolen bike alert. My friend Stephen's Cherubim stolen today from outside Tesco on Clifton Rd W9. Frame serial number 11121. Equipped with Ultegra triple chainset. If you see it, please report to police or contact me. Thank you.
Pic #2 thanks to j808: at the time it was nicked, the bike had a pair of polished silver boxed rims rather than the ones shown in the above photo.

Maybe not the place but my seat and seatpost were nabbed tonight from Shoreditch around 8.30pm. I've just started working there and was just having an after work pint.
Is there anything I can do to stop it happening again - fancy seat-post clamps etc?

STOLEN BIKE alert. Hi all, I was recommended this site as a good community to get the word out about a stolen bike. I had my Lemond Alpe D'Huez stolen this week. I'm really keen to get it back, so please let me know if you see it about. Reward for info and eternal gratitude for sure! It's fairly unique with brand new Shimano 105 group set and blue colour. I'm on 07446197033 if you see it. Any suggestions for bike recovery also appreciated

So, this is the first case I've heard about in which thieves actually broke into one of the breadbins:
As Tony says in the article, angle-grinding that wire mesh off must have taken ages and, I guess, won't be possible too often.

• #13447
Doesn't look to me like it'd take too long to get through that mesh with an angle grinder
Long enough to be loud and noticeable though

Avoid Atomic22.com like the plague - their website allows you to 'buy' but they have not been honouring sales for well over two years. I was one of many people that lost money which they took from my card despite the company being in receivership. I reported them to the department of trading standards and the police back in the summer of 2016. To be honest I'm shocked to see that their site is still live. http://www.bikeforums.net/general-cycling-discussion/1014704-atomic22-bicycle-security-contact-number.html

There was one on my street in Harringay that was broken into a couple of years ago. They took it away and added thick steel bars horizontally behind the mesh.

Yes, a large part of the idea is of course that the noise will alert someone. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get through the mesh with an angle grinder, but these guys angle-ground (not sure that's a word, it might have to be angle-grindered(?), ugly though that is) all around it to remove the mesh for a big enough hole to pull bikes out. That certainly will have taken a while.
