Here in Japan, 99% of cyclists ride on the pavement. No one shits themselves with anger about it, either.

Oh yeah, my parents live near Teramo, the number of times I haven't seen a rider until the last minute at night beggars belief, they seem especially light averse on the flat roads in the valleys.

More an observation than a call out, but the overwhelming majority in Abbruzzo (Italy) ride without lights even in pitch black night time.
