I don't understand this irritation at having to spend a few £ on the right tool to do the job
Imagine if Thomson stems used a 7-lobed version of Torx for all their bolts.

No Slate in the UK for 2018 apparently.

thinking of getting a caad12 for winter, does it have better clearances on the smaller sizes (48cm) than the caad10?
-
• #8731
Shame but it's pretty niche. They quietly dropped the hooligan for the uk last year too and it was a rad raw frame/ orange lefty number.
-
• #8732
They are under pressure for revenue and the lines that aren't delivering that are getting dropped.
-

The Slate probably would have sold better without suspension. Or one sided forks. Or 650B wheels...
So a 'gravel' bike like everyone else's.
-
• #8734
have to agree. I do still think they are very cool though
-

Slate will be considered a classic in 10 years. Same as the caad10 will. Although c10 already is to a certain extent

New CAAD for winter and some gravel grinding.

diagnosis of my hollowgram meltdown - looks like my spiderring lockring has cracked. really odd - not sure how that has happened as it was installed by a shop so shouldnt think it was overtorqued
no bank holiday road riding for me :(

same problem here. clicks ocasionally but did not attempt to replace it yet. need the tool.. already bought the lockring but seeing yours does not put my mind at ease. i have the older version and bought this mk3 to replace it, but if these crack too..
-

Clearly my watts are insufficient- I've never cracked one of those. I have, entirely coincidentally I am sure, always used a torque wrench and loctite when installing
-
• #8742
If the lockring is holding back one's mighty watts, one has a very unusual pedalling style.

I move in a mysterious way it is true

I have no idea. but one day I went out riding and it sounded like this

@hma I had a quick google and couldnt find anyone else who had cracked one. I dont think it is common. surprised you have had the same issue
-
• #8745
I am just hoping a new lockring sorts it and I havent fucked the spiderring/crank riding it. the interfaces look fine though so hopefully it will be ok
amazingly the bb30 bearings are super smooth still
-
• #8746
whoa, that sounds much worse than mine. i get one silent click every 20 turns or so, took me a good while to identify the source..

Now the sales have started I'm looking at a CAAD12 Black Inc or a Canyon Ultimate CF SL in the race blue with discs;
https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/ultimate/ultimate-cf-sl-disc-9-0.htmlI'm pretty much a novice when it comes to buying bikes. So any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Prioritise, in this order:
- The colour
- Whichever groupset is most aligned with your prejudices
- Wheels
- Frame material
- Frame geometry
- Warranty, and reputation of firm for actually standing behind it
- That you get on well with the shop you might buy it from
- The colour
Best replacement fork for a SuperSix? Asking for a friend. Anyone know the steerer tube diameters (tapered) and the rake?
