The number of faulty calipers wasn't big enough to issues one, like the FSA chainset whose crank developed a play on the spindle (and result in a couple of frame replaced).

I stopped my MTB's Maguras squealing all by myself...
It's amazing what you can do when you finally understand how they work and actually have some useful tools.

Send it to Shimano to find out what happened.
Presume he still had a front brake though right? #touchysubjectatthemoment

Have I made an obvious mistake? The way the hose exits the caliper makes me think so, because it'll need quite a bend to run up the fork.
I hope so, because apart from the hose, the caliper is as far to the outside as possible but the outboard pad is up against the rotor.
Failing that, do adaptors come in different widths? It's currently a Hope type F, which is 11.0mm and I need to gain 1mm or 2mm.

yep. had to have my rear caliper replaced as it was faulty.
paid to have it fitted, mechanic said "probably just needs bedding in". didnt bed in. just leaked fluid. shimano took ages to replace it to. such a pain
apparently it was a common problem on the early batches (pisstake). this was a year and a half ago

Yes - the banjo goes in where the bleed nipple is, and vice versa!

@Scilly.Suffolk regarding the hose angle, is it poss that the adaptor is upside down?

Yes - the banjo goes in where the bleed nipple is, and vice versa!
But that's how it came in the box...
EDIT
Rear is the same.Winstanley's fucking with me?

The caliper doesn't reach the adaptor the other way around.

You got the Barnoldswick intern and it was Friday?
Just checked my Hope, Shimano, Magura brakes - all banjos, all side mounted. Can't check the SRAM ones coz they are in the shop.
Would you like a photo?

Maybe if you are using a whopping great rotor with the E4 then the inside position is workable.
But yeah. Weird.
OK. Not that weird. If you google image search the calipers it shows that either position is workable - you just pick the one that works for your frame geo / mount / and rotor size

I've spoken to Hope and it's now their practice to mount the banjo inboard, to give it more protection.
Which makes sense I suppose. But using the same banjo doesn't: the caliper would need to be mounted at 3 o'clock for it to route the hose up the leg.
The guy at Hope suggested fitting a straight banjo, which is pretty poor having just spent
~£250 with them. -

And he suggested getting the mount faced to solve the issue of the caliper being too close to the rotor, which is an expense I could do without.
I know it's recommended with flat mount, but wasn't aware IS needed it too.
A thinner adaptor would be better (for me, ie cheaper).

IS mounts should be faced for an easy life

It's definitely the right way round. it has that little stop to prevent the hose from turning into the spokes if the banjo bolt is loose.

Nah, @youramericanlover will be too busy posting in the tubeless tyre thread.

You could remove 1mm off the side of the adapter (but is then DIY stuff)

Thanks, much appreciated!
I found the complete kit, so ordered two of those.
I might have a lead on a cheap facing tool, if not I'll DIY: I don't trust any of the LBS.
Right-o, thanks
