  • Cheers - it's a loose central shield, but I'll see if I can swap it rather than faff about removing bearings.
    I know these BBs have a bad rep, but the last one lasted for 5+ years of foul weather commuting so I was hoping for more of the same.

  • Swapping it out is probably for the best.

    If you've fitted it and tried screwing the cup down to sort it out, then the bearing is probably fast on the spindle: you'd need to be striking the outer race of the bearing to remove it, which will likely fuck it, if it isn't already.

  • In the interests of completeness:

    • Miche BB replaced with Shimano UN55. Resolved the tight spot due to bearing misalignment but still clicking.
    • After much searching I found a crack under the head of one chainring bolt. New bolt - clicking noise is gone.
