  • You must check there is nothing to your left before turning. You would have had "priority"

  • With bus lanes, always think, if you were a bus, would they have done what they just did? If the answer is no, they're a cunt.

  • In my experience, if he's started turning and you have room to stop, I find it's better to just stop.

Who had "right of way" is largely academic at that point.

  • He should have waited.

He's not going to be hurt so fuck you.

  • Rule 182 as well it seems

  • I am in absolute agreement with all of this in theory.

Just be ready to stop when drivers get it wrong...

  • double down. do a poo in the cistern.

  • i did end up stopping but got a myriad of abuse from folks behind as i had to do a mad skid (skillz) and swerve right to avoid.

moral of story... vans are bastards.

  • Then flip him off again, kiss his wife and storm out with the cake?

  • a myriad of abuse from folks behind

Yeah, I once got similar from a bus driver who was adamant I should have kept going (he had to slam on his brakes).

I wasn't willing to risk my neck getting left hooked - whether I'm 'in the right' or not. The people behind can wait :)

  • Absolutely! Better to be safe than sorry.

Always good to know the facts too, in case you're ever knocked off.

  • I get this almost daily heading south down Camden Road in the morning. You can be doing a fair lick if the bus lane is clear whereas the lane next to you is barely moving. I'm always on the lookout for gaps in traffic at the junctions as, almost certainly, someone has slowed down and waved across a driver turning right not giving a toss that there are a load of cyclists in the bus lane.

I tend to be slowing at each junction as it's a 50/50 whether they just nose across and see you or just drive straight through.

  • It wasn't him!!!! Just a twat.

  • It wasn't him!!!! Just a twat.

Ah, sort of reassuring to know the universe is functioning normally.

  • True.

I was hoping my camera caught some of it but the wind and chain noise blocks the sound of the horn allbyou can see is the shimmy around the bus and then my right hand leaving the bars for a moment to deliver the bird.

  • it's like you're the milk tray man for a new generation.

  • obvs.

    but more breaking and entering-y.

  • Last night at the junction of Willow Walk and Lynton Road heading home towards Peckham. I move off as the lights go green, as I cross the junction I notice a lady ahead walking down the road, she has a pushchair.

She then decides to walk out into traffic, without looking at all, I think she presumed as the other side of the road the traffic is stationary that nothing is coming. Luckily I am not going that fast but she's pretty much running to get over the road quickly. I stop before her and she then comes to a sudden stop realising what she did. As she stops out of the pushchair a baby is launched into the air, at least I thought it was a baby, until I saw a slightly bewildered dachshund pick himself up off the road. She kept apologising as she picked up her dog, I told her to be more careful. At that point I was just glad it wasn't actually a baby!

  • Swarmed by a wacky race of various cyclists all on a mission to get somewhere immediately this morning on Moorgate. All nearly taken out en masse by an dozy WMV. Mutley nowhere to be seen.

  • ^ & ^^ Sounds like he was kidnapped by Penelope Pitstop.

  • She was there. Powered up my inside then had a deep existential crisis when confronted with a solid white van, did an actual wobble as if she was debating whether to go left or right before her lizard brain kicked in and she swerved wildly to the right nearly taking out the Anthill Mob.

  • I hit someone today.

Not in that way but by signalling left at Lambeth Bridge north side roundabout (Embankment on to Horseferry rd). There is now a weird 'escape zone' at each of the 'corners' that I don't think is a cycling lane but it seems some people use it as that.

He cycled up the inside and I tapped him a little bit when I stuck my hand out to indicate. I tried to apologise but he went on his way. Hopefully no harm done.

  • I kicked someone the other day at Cannon St as I hopped off to cross the lights. Good hard boot to the arm, cleat first. Embarrassing.
