Why not? Easier to prevent windup than skinny round spokes, more aeros than skinny round spokes...

they are actually spam's strongest spokes

I use bladed pillar spokes which, gauge wise, sit between cx ray and cx sprint. They also have 2,2mm diameter at the elbow to make more durable.
Very very nice

• #6407
Martin, how much are they?

they are actually spam's strongest spokes
Highest specific strength in the butted section. Other spokes are stronger because they more than make up for the lower specific strength by having a larger cross section. As they are all made from the same wire, the specific strength at the bend, which is where spokes actually break, is likely to be the same for all the spokes.

the bend, which is where spokes actually break
Only ever broke one spoke, it was in the middle. Did I do magic?
-
• #6410
ordering soon. going to pay my bill for the rim brakes first.

Did I do magic?
No, you're just an outlier. If it didn't have a scratch from foreign object damage acting as a crack initiator, you're an extreme outlier.

Kinlin TB20S available in 28h and 32H drilling £35 each. funilly enough gues what arrived from taiwan today. This is a 23mm 22mm deep black disc brake only tubular rim. Sleeved joined.

• #6413
Having built with the OP now ERD is 293mm not 589mm as it say on the rim. silly mavic ERD measured with 12mm sapim brass nipples. I am not sure CX-ray are a good idea. I am going to delete that option from the builds. The stiffer sapim race/force is a better idea.

Kinlin TB20S
Better than the XR22 RTS OCR?

If you've got tubs, then yes, because fitting tubs to XR22 RTS OCT rims is going to be an exercise in futility.
-
• #6418
ah yeah, it was the TB20 I was looking at after all, as a direct equivilant to those XR22 clinchers. @cycleclinic assuming there's nothing disc and tubular with an offset from Kinlin?
-
• #6419
OP now ERD is 293mm not 589mm
I'm guessing you mean 593mm, unless Mavic have redesigned it to look like a Blackwell Disco :)
-
• #6420
typo alert.
-
• #6421
there is no offset tubular disc rim that i know off. you have the TB20S or the velocity major tom. The kinlin is cheaper and nicer i think.

What about Sapim d-light ?

What about Sapim d-light ?
Why would you? It's 2½oz for a pair of wheels compared with Sapim Force (which is their Alpine III equivalent, if you have something against the Swiss), which doesn't seem like much of a benefit to set against making your wheels weaker and floppier.
-
• #6424
Ok, alpine iiis it is.

• #6425
You can have mdcc tester is right forum t shirt 0001^.
CX-Ray if you're racing, otherwise DT Alpine III
