Have you tried calling I Repair Macs http://www.irepairmacs.co.uk/? They have a shop (!) on Goswell Road. Haven't needed them myself but heard good things before.

Mark the Hampstead Mac guy is highly recommended. He used to work for Apple and has gone freelance because they encouraged throwing away machines/parts that could comfortably be salvaged. Sounds right up your street.

friend of mine does macbook fixes, pretty much any type of part replacement. used him regularly at my previous startup company to replace batteries, fix fans, fix screens, new keyboards/trackpads, etc etc.
if you're north london, he can also come to you

Non Apple certified MacBook repair in London, can someone make a recommendation? I have an old MacBook and anyone official won't touch it and don't supply parts for it anymore, but the oem parts are available.
