I have monzo and like it but it hasn't changed my spending habits at all, too easy to top up from my main bank account. Monthly graphs are good though.

It's done the exact opposite for me. I seem to have left over spending cash at the end of my second month which is nice. It's the notifications that I'm finding really help.

AFAIK you can still use the MSE sign up to jump the queue also

It looks like I'm the odd one out, if this thread is anything to go by.
It's never going to be a quick fix for lack of discipline though, needs to instigate a behavioural change and it didn't for me.
Are people using it for online purchases as well as in-store? -

I've actually got another card. I thought it's stupid to have 3 cards initially, but it's working out well. 1 is daily usage (groceries, eating out etc etc) one is travel (motorcycle, tube, flights if I've planned for it) and the normal debit card was sudden expenditures.
Have barely used my debit card since. I've set up Monzo to warn me if I'm closing in on spending in certain areas I've budgeted in.
For example turns out I spend a fucking silly amount on eating out, so I've taken a chunk out of that every month for 3 months. Working well. -

Will be interesting to see if it goes the way of Metro Bank, Revolut, etc with gradual reductions in the service it offers once it becomes too popular.

I'm in line Ahah. Going to Berlin in October so probably will end up going with a different card.
Anyone managed to link one of these to uber? Would be good to be able to use uber when I'm away with out having the external charges added because I'm in different countries.

The link above gets you straight on.
This one https://monzo.com/s/limited/
I applied yesterday and am due to get the card by the weekend.
Although if you want a card to avoid overseas charges on Uber, etc then I'd recommend https://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/clarity-card/

i have a golden ticket too.
Also for foreign stuff im going to be using revolut.
I cant imagine there would be any difficulty linking it to Uber. underneath its a standard mastercard. I have never used uber tbf though maybe they add extra checking stuff...

If you're not aware Revolut now has a limit on overseas withdrawals. Anything over £200 per month incurs a fee.
-
• #44
I was not aware of that, ill have to check if that defines 'spend in a foreign country using the card' as withdrawal but if not then I wouldn't worry about it. Most of my usage would be in Sweden (almost fully cashless already) and this month in Finland. I try to avoid using cash as much as possible these days.
-
• #45
It's only ATM withdrawal.
I use the Halifax card for all card purchases but tend to use a fair bit of cash as well (the US is a fair bit behind with cards) which is why I noticed it.
-
• #46
For what is meant to be a first world country, the US is positively archaic in that regard.

This was the first month I committed to it.
I did my budget and lumped it all on my Monzo card.Unsuccessful experiment.
I went over my budget but the way the app slices the spend data really gives me no understanding of where.
My spending in Pret for work lunches (for example) is lumped in with a Sunday lunch bar tab for the family at the weekend.
They are two different things, and things that come out of different nominal 'budgets'.To be really useful the app needs to start allowing user defined spend categories.

pretty sure you can change payment categories, click the payment then select the category under the Value and then you can select an alternative.
used mine for traveling and saved a bomb on fees, also had payments returned in america as the transactions were not validated by the bars/restraunts.... #thereissuchathingasafreelunch

Yeah - you can move the spend to another generic category, but you can't define a category.
Ideally I want to set up a category for spend on lunches and food during the working week, spend on booze (shop and bar and pub), spend on social travel vs commuting travel etc
What I am really after is a system where I set the categories, then I tag and allocate a spend to one of my defined categories as and when they appear in app.
Which, as I understand, is much more in line with what BBank are doing.
With Revolut you can switch between currencies on the one card but also hold money on there, if you benefit from a good exchange rate. Which you cant do on Monzo. Mind you I just use Monzo as the one stop shop
