They come with the Brompton tyres anyway, so run those and see how you get on. Just be aware that you might get a puncture or two.
Marathons are £12 apiece, or thereabouts, so stick them on if/when you start getting punctures :)

This is what I have.
I live in Forest Hill, and visit my Mum who lives the other side of Crystal Palace (Col in Londres Sud).
I take the train.
Everywhere else, 2 gears are absolutely fine. I've no hankering for any more. The simplicity delights.
I had Marathons on it from new, but changed to Kojaks earlier this year. The difference in rolling resistance is very noticeable, and very much enjoyed.
I've not suffered any punctures before or after the swap.
Hope Vision 1 on the front (remove before fold), and a Brompton specific Cateye at the back - you'll need a 2017 saddle which has a threaded insert to match the Cateye fitting.
Prior to that I used a Leyzene KTV usb light on the back, at the top of the seat post - it didn't affect the fold.
I've thrown enough Ti flavoured money at this bike that it would've been cheaper to buy a medium-sized yacht and keep it moored in Marbella.
Unfortunately it still remains an effective means of dislocating a shoulder when it is folded and I'm carrying it whilst running for a train.
You should take into account that mine is a 2013 bike which is still on its original brake pads - so not exactly high mileage. Although as of this year it regularly deals with my weekly trip to the stupormarket. During the week it is seldom used.
But it is fantastic as my 'go to' bike where I don't need to put on spd shoes or don Lycra.
It took me a while to get my head around that is wasn't a replacement for any of my road bikes.
I don't know whereabouts you are based, but I would deffo recommend Compton Cycles in Catford - they've a large stock of Bromptons and know their stuff when it comes to these.
Enjoy yours when you get it. -

I got mine from Compton too, highly recommended.

Head up people, Schwable have now made the new Marathon Plus smaller and now can be used with Brompton (the previous one were 37mm despite claiming to be 35mm).

The previous generation worked fine on my old one?

Same here.

Even so, the clearance is still very tight, I actually have to replace some of the rear triangle due to wear and tear from the tyres.

IMO...
2 speed works brilliantly - lower gear for traffic lights, hills (have climbed Swains albeit slowly with stock gears and pedals) and pootling - higher gear for everything else. whizz off the lights in low gear - spin out - flick to high ratio - accelerate to cruising velocity (and then get overtaken...)
I'd recommend stock tyres - I had marathons on for a year and it was a revelation to put the faster, grippier, nicer riding standard tyres on.
Firm block, upgraded roller wheels, saddle upgrade, ergons maybe (but I think stock grips are ok). I use Lezyne midrange lights that stay on the bike.
S type is a lot less flexy than M and a lot lot less flexy than H.
Mudguards are a massive benefit for practical year round use. Front luggage is really handy too - like Corny says - S bag is great. That said you can just hang a rucksack off the bars for casual storage - no risk of anything getting caught in the tiny wheels.

Took the Brompton Electric for test ride on Sat, really loved it! It was my first time on an e-bike. The assist works really well with the pedal torque sensor. The power output depends on the intensity you set it on (1, 2 or 3). On '3' the assists is quite fun, literally zooms you past. They are going to come in 2 and 6 speed, I tried the 2 speed one and don't think I will need the 6 speed one with the assist. The 2 speed one isnt far off my my 6 speed S6L in weight. They come with dynamo front and rear lights too with auto, on and off modes.
Cannot wait!

Need a motor to overcome the drag from that leg hair.

• #3188
oh man, would need 3 in that case!

AFAIK only 4 tyre options for a Brompton? Is this right? Why are no other manufacturers making options when they're so popopular
-

What more do you need? Kojak is fast, Marathon is slow but puncture resistant and stock sits somewhere between the two.

£2500 though...
Best way to release money from the company for a low overhead business ;) unless I get a car but fuck that.
is that why you went for 6?
Its actually her bike :P But yeah. If you lift both you can hardly tell the diff IMO, its good to have the flexibility.

I had a test ride on a prototype electric Brompton at the factory about 8 years ago. It was shit.

Search for the size of tyre not tyres advertised as 'Brompton tyres'
I have kenda tyres that are serving me well and were £15 for the pair. Ok, I can't get a massive psi but I weigh 83kg and I feel comfortable on the pressure I can get. -
• #3198
TBF 100psi is pretty high, the main reason is mainly to reduced pinch puncture, which is too easy when you drop below 50psi.

Mikey knows. I have an (inherited) 3 speed. Reattaching the hub gear cable took me far too long to be normal.
Or maybe that is me
